Hi

Need a little advice regarding my service provider, the story basically boils down to:

I am with AOHELL (aol), and everyday on the dot from 5pm to about 11-11.30pm my internet slows down severe. I get downloads of about 56kb/s when downloading a file from internet and surfing becomes a pain, compared to about 780kb/s at any other time and speeds usually fluctuate. I want to make a complaint that this is not on and basically wanted to find out where i stand with them, is this expected, does anyone else have a similar situation?

any advice would be appreciated,

thanks.

I had the same issue with BT, it was because I was being routed through their traffic management system. I don't think there's anything you can really do about it, most isp's seem to do it now anyway apart from the Enta resellers. I'm using UKFSN and it's pretty good.

same problem here, im with BT.
Im ringing up tomorrow for the mac code change over thing.

Been researching and am going with ukonline :)

You will get the standard reply "ADSL is a contended service". You don't have much choice you live with it or move on. There are ISP's out there that don't have any throttling and you pay for such service proportionally with how much usage you require.

So the questions are, how much are you willing to pay for a unthrottled connection, and how much usage do you require?

What LLU services do you have? http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php

And Entanet run a ALT but do not throttle specific services and does not run below 2Mbps.

The ALT doesn't go beyond 2Mbps, but if congestion gets bad enough you may very well see much lower.

I have exactly the same with BT. I got so annoyed that I asked for my MAC and I have migrated to an Enta reseller, which should be activated very soon.

Indeed. Anti Loss Tool or not, it would be where ever natural contention takes it to on that central. Although I was talking about throttling of the connection. :)

Have you just become a Don?

Well that was an easy choice. Get on Be now!

If you're going to sign up with Be, it might be worth signing up with Quidco. £24 cashback for signing up with Be through them.

I know, I just wanted to be clear that the worst you might see could be worse than that.
Throttling is generally preferable to the Bad Things that happen when you take a Central to 100% though.

The other day. See thread in Garbage District :p
