Hi guys,

I'm looking to purchase an SSD for my OS and games (BF3, WoW and D3 when it comes out). I'm looking for a quiet one, that makes near no noise at all when I'm accessing it.

Thanks!

P.S. the smallest size will do just fine.

go for a 120gb drive,60gb wont be big enough for os and a few games

id go for corsair gt 120gb
vertex 3 120gb
intel 520 120gb
or crucial m4 120gb

All ssd's are totally silent! There are no moving parts in any of them, hence the term 'solid state drive'.

Get the 128gb crucial m4, its the best drive for the money currently.

They wont make any noise. They are just super fast flash memory essentially. Unlike old mechanical drives which store everything on a spinning magnetic platter.

Thanks :)

Final question: does having an SSD improve the speed that a program runs at? So, for example, if I'm playing BF3 will having an SSD improve quality of gameplay and speed?

no,not gameplay but loading the game and levels ect will be quicker if on an ssd,

Crucial M4 128GB SSD is the one and only one I recommend at this current time. The best you can get for the price.

I wouldn't really recommend running games on an SSD though, it'll just end up wearing down the read/writes a hell of a lot faster. I primarily use mine for OS boot, programs, for adobe creative suite, scratch disk.

Never for gaming.

Thanks :)

Having an SSD will definitely improve the speed that a program opens and saves. For instance, on my caviar black, photoshop would open in about 20 seconds, on the SSD it opens in about 5 seconds, if not instant.

I replaced a crucial c300 64GB with the crucial M4 128gb as I was running out of space on the system drive.

I now use the c300 as a games drive and the speed boost is noticable. As long as it is reading from the drive in the majority of instances then I can't see it affecting the drive in a negative way.
