Need advice on picking a case

Like the edit ;)

With forums it is just a case of knowing who knows first hand what they are talking about, and who is quoting a review. Case reviews are useless as you can't really make any comparissons that are objective.

If the opinion is based on personal experience, its very, very useful.

There's no accounting for taste, so cosmetics are something you have to make your own mind up on, but ease of use, design, airflow etc are all down to hands on experience.

When I wanted a new case I posted in here and everyone told me the positives and negatives of the antec aria. They were bang on - damn fine looking, but bloody silly place ofr the PSU. Still bought it, and still loving it. Without users opinions on here it would've been harder to justify buying it, as reviews are few and far betwen.

Just to add to this little discussion - it might be an idea to ask peeps to post pics of cases they have bought. This might help with the style part of the discussion. I say this as if you look at the Akasa pic it looks pretty good, whilst if you see a pic of it in real life that plastic front could be a killer if you are a stickler for good taste.

The cases gallery at the top of this page is for that, the Eclipse is the 2nd/3rd most popular case in there. :)

Some very nice rigs in the gallery.

Sorry didnt update, havent been on properly. They said 6 weeks for both the "eclipse" and the new "mirage" case.

I think i might wait for the mirage as it looks dead sexy at the front imo :P and has place for 4 extra fans inside afaik from the little pictures i have seen :/. But im safe for waiting for a review of it first to see what its pro's and con's are. Month and half wait makes me want to cry :(

Get the Akasa Eclipse-62, Thermaltake VA9000BWS Kandalf Full Tower, or something like the Antec Titan 550 Tower Case they are nice cases. I would personally take the tt.

The Titan is not actually that good.

Its a good buy if you need the PSU, otherwise it is one to avoid as there are much better for half its price.

Kandalf is made worse than the Eclipse, can't say otherwise; personally I think it looks rubbish and I would get bored of it after a month.

Eclipse, the only fault of this case is it uses plastic for the front, but the new version is sorting that :D

Sorry for bumping this but Yewen, do you think it would be worth it waiting out for the mirage case to come into stock? Been pondering over this for ages and wasnt too sure if it was worth waiting for as it does look sexy on the front and the inside too.

I have heard June from another forum member for the release date. Although it looks like they will have killed the case by adding a 240mm fan to the side.

I would just get a Eclipse/PC7+ now, unless the Mirage is a Eclipse clone with a aluminium front I can't safely recommend it to people without using it; pot luck!

I will be getting my hands on one to see, but if they change the cooling from the Eclipse then they will ruin a 5 year old design that has been working perfectly just to jump on the big fan bandwagon.

ah cheers mate. Ill just get an eclipse for now then, and if it turns out to be an upgrade i can sell the eclipse and get a mirage :D

Cheers for all the help yewen

I think as long as you keep the box the Eclipse would have a buyer, very good cases, keep the box, don't scratch it or mod it, wait until the mirage is out, see if its what you want.

Then act acordingly :)

If the mirage is a Eclipse with a nicer front then it will be worth hanging on for, but at the moment it is set to be either loud with pointless better cooling than the eclipse, or built cheaply and same, or expensive with same cooling.

I can't make my mind up about the mirage now, will need some hands on with the final case as prototypes are all that have been about as far as I know.

As in not go into the fans?

You have to make the thread, just screw hard if its going into the fan, bad design but its just been like it since the start of PC's as far as I know.

Ahh, you need the right tools for the job, a cheap Philips has done me for years.

Get yourself one, 99p jobbie!
Good luck finding one, the fans are a bit of a pain; I remember the first one I did I was really worried I was going to break it due to all the creaking noises coming from it. :p

been fiddling about with the case for a bit and still cant figure out how to remove the back panel to get to the screws at the other side of the DVD drive bays :(.

Have a few gripes about the case, one that it lacks any instructions and two the poor quality involved with the thumb screws. Half of them dont fit in properly and one in the HDD caddy has to be put in at an angle  . Does anyone else get this? I hope so, because i would hate to get the 1/100 case lol. Other than that nothing good has come of today, so im holding off until tomorrow to build the rig before i lose the bap lol :P.
