Hi everyone,

A friend is buying my sig components so I'm gonna be building the following soon but just need some help with the CPU and RAM. From reading the forum and elsewhere online the following seems to be a pretty common setup for a new build:

-Abit IP35 Pro
-Corsair PSU HX620W
-Tuniq Tower 120
-Antec P180 (already own)
-Haven't decided on Nvidia GFX Card yet.

Which of the E21xx or E22xx should I get now and oc?

My other main worry is making sure that the 2Gig of RAM I get will be suitable for overclocking a quad penryn in the future as that is essentially what I am building the system for.

Cheers in advance.

Are you going to overclock??

E2180 should do nicely although with only £3 difference the E2200 is probably the best choice. Both have the same overclocking potential.

Geil ULL 2Gb PC6400 - at less than £30 there is no other choice atm. Just got two of these and they're great.

Ya will be overclocking both the stopgap CPU (E2xxx) and the Quad Penryn when available. After having the Opty165 I don't think I can avoid it now:)

The plan is to build a system for a Quad Penryn now with one of the E2xxx CPU's to cover me until the Quad Penryns are available at a reasonable price.

Hell two weeks ago I was overclocking an old P3 733 for my brothers wife. Chucked on TinyXP and now it flies....

Will that Geil ULL 2Gb PC6400 still be fine for overclocking on the Quad Penryns down the line?

If yes, then thats insane cause I was fully prepared to shell out three or four times the price for some high end PC2-8500. At that price I might aswell get 4gig:)

A PC6400 kit is fine for upto 400FSB which is good for 3.2Ghz - 4Ghz depending on the multiplier (8-10) without pushing the RAM, but considering people have been getting very nice overclock results from this kit (upto 1Ghz PC8000 is common with only 2 sticks) there is very little chance the Geil ULL will hold back your CPU overclock (penryn included).

Thanks for the advice, I'm fairly out of touch with the new Intels and DDR2. I have a love/hate relationship with upgrading....hate all the reading but really enjoy knowing I'll be getting some new toys to play with soon. Cheers again.

get which ever 2GB DDR2 800Mhz is on This Week Only. There seems to be a set almost every week for under £30.

E2180 CPU. Go into bios, up FSB, restart, run with OCed PC.

RAM £30, CPU £60
