Hi, im upgrading from my Phenom II 1100T build to Socket 2011.

I need advice on X79 motherboard to go with a i7-3820 and either 2 X 7950 or one 7970.

Mostly I want a motherboard thats a good overclocker.

Thanks.

When you look at the benchies there isn't a lot of difference between the Asus boards.
You need to think about whether you are going for the maximum o/c possible, if so get the R4E, but if not then the extra money could be better spent elsewhere and you could get the Asus Rampage Formula - it really depends on your budget
From when I was researching, all the Asus boards went to 5Ghz with enough volts!
I bought a sabertooth as the best price/perfomance point for me, and then nabbed a cheap Rampage extreme off my uncle and sold the sabertooth..
If you plan on a 24/7 o/c of 4.7 - 4.8 then I think all the Asus boards will do that, above that you probably want a rampage board, plus they just look so good :D

EDIT: oh and looks :D

:D:D:D

Says it all really, I kept telling myself that I didn't need half the features, vga volt modding and LN2 temp monitors have never been high on my list! The performance wasn't a big enough difference to justify the price, but it is just such a sexy board, and 200 quid to buy it off my uncle was just too good to resist..
I wasn't aware of the priority support bit?

What about going for the Ramapge formula rather than the Extreme?

you could also just go for the rampage IV formula that is over £100 cheaper than the extreme

or actually any of the mid £200 boards will all be pretty much of a muchness - just look for one that has the features you want - e.g. some come with more or less PCIE x16 slots or memory slots and they all tend to be bigger than standard ATX
