Need advice please.

What case did you get with your Ultima Mosasaur?

Stulid is correct in that the recommended setup for 3 cards is to use the very bottom slot on the board for the third card.

That way the cards operate at x16/x8/x8.

If you use the slots stulid indicated in the picture then the bottom card will run at x4 speed.

Using the very bottom slot should also be better for cooling the cards.

To run the cards with the best configuration your case needs to have 8 expansion slots on the rear to accommodate the bottom card overhanging the motherboard.

Your PSU also seems very marginal for 3 HD 6950's.

You might, in theory, have enough power but you'll be running the PSU pretty hard and start doing much overclocking and you'll be really pushing it.

The lack of PCI-E power connectors is also worrying.

If you're sticking to 2 cards then there doesn't really seem any need to change the motherboard.

Overclockers should return the system fully working at 4.6GHz and it seems a waste to spend £300 for something that doesn't really improve what you can already do with what you already have.

I suggest you sleep on this as well and have a good think about what you're hoping to achieve and how much, or how little, it'll cost you to get there.

I'd recommend a decent 1000+ watt power supply for a 3 card 6950 setup.

Personallly, i'd get a 1250 watt psu just so the power supply will only ever go up to 70% load, keeping the power supply nice and quiet, but thats just me.

Thanks everyone here for all your help and the guys on the phones at Overclockers too!

I have decided to get the Asrock Z68 Extreme7 Gen3 and use the money I saved on this to get a nice soundcard :)

Should have my machine back any day now!

Hope to get a 3rd card later this year maybe when I save up some more cash lol
