Hi guys, I'm gonna be building a new pc hopefully in about a 2 weeks time, but I need some help deciding on what GPU to go with, heres the choices

1. Put 2 Sapp 5850's in CF

2. A 5970 (dunno which brand yet)

3. A ASUS or XFX GTX480

or 4. Go abit mental and use my current 5850, with 2 more, and have 3 way CrossfireX 5850's

it will be off in a Core i7 rig, with a 1200W Be-quiet PSU, and Frantic design R2 case

none of the above save your money till ati do some good cards later in the year or until the 6*** seires appears.

i'm pretty sure ur 5850 is good enough for practically any game

what games are you playing at present which make you think you will need all that gpu power(i'm thinking it's just a EPEEN thing)

Metro 2033, Crysis (both), Cod4, also a lot of MW2, pretty much all the current shooters and some old 1's, with a lot of RTS games too, ME2, Dirt2 (yes I know some of them are not exacly demanding) , and ATI are doing pretty good cards at the mo, I think anyway, and whats EPEEN?, also should have realy pointed out, this comp will most likely not get upgraded for quiet a few years, thats another reason I'm thinking about getting this much GPU power

Still a big waste IMO crysis runs great on 5850/5870,metro is bugged to hell and dosen't run very well on anything you could buy a 5970 tommorrow and in a years time a uber game could come out that you really want that you 5970 will not be able to max and your back to square 1.

i'd stick with the 5850 for a while, invest in decent hardware and peripherals like a good case, psu, keyboard, mouse, monitor, speaker etc etc then wait until ati pulls their finger out with the new 6000 series all 58 and 59 series cards use the same tessalator anyway so if your looking at DX11 gaming then wait until the 6000 series where hopefully they will be able to pull of something big with tessalation cause apart from select benchmarks the difference is minimal in game but the performance hit is massive.

example Metro on very high with tess and DOF enabled will see some pretty low FPS for the sake of seeing a tiny bit of extra smoothness around dolls, clothes, helmets, pipes basically all the stuff you don't care about when your being chased down or in a gun battle i know i certainly don't stop and go wow that pipe looks very round.

o0h and EPEEN is a word to describe someone who wants the best so they can show off online. the "E" stands for internet/online and "PEEN" stands for that dangly thing you use to take a leak :D

i would like to say buy what ever suits your budget but i feel you would be left dissapointed by the end of the year

hmm, might wait then, and Ive allready got a G15 and Cyborge mouse, and a good 1080P Tv, and logitec speakers, but yeah, I guess I could wait a few month for a new GPU, the only lag I get at the moment is from my CPU, because of its stupidly low cache

ok, I know this is abit off topic, but is it worth buying a new i7 rig?, or should I wait a few month?

i would wait for that 2 it's a weird time to buy new stuff at the mo especially with new gpu's and cpu's that have sprung up lately AMD's new hexacore could see prices rise or fall as is the same with intels new gulftown

If it was me personally i'd sit on the fence for the next month or so and keep an eye on the forum and other pages to see whats happening also check the prices on a regular basis as they can chage very quickly

Ok, well I'll do that, I guess I can just buy my new case, PSU and stuff for the time being to keep me happy lol, and then buy the rest when the new stuff comes out
