She is gonna say i dont need one cos i gotta machine already, any suggestions? ive thought about smashing the inside of my machine so i can get one :P

If it is your money and you are paying for it then by all means go for it. You could always sell the parts left over. I do know what mothers are like though :D Just make sure you aren't upgrading just for the sake of it I say.

Yeh but I WANT IT NOW ! lol yea guess ill av to might buy my lian li case on thursday and transfer over me old gear to it :P

i know my mum used to kind of push me not to get stuff saying There No Point etc even when it was my money. i changed loads of minds. i even bought 2x24" instead of the 30" i wanrted. guess what? im now selling the 2x24" for a 30" :)

Ha, I remember these situations. I had to move back home in my mid-20s for about 6 months and got constant questions and guilt-trips about all my purchases even though I had a job and my own money.

<shudders>

If your mum is anything like mine, the trick is just to tell her that you got whatever you buy on special offer and stress how much money you saved rather than how much it cost (you can make this up, of course!).

My dear old ma is such a sucker for special offers that she was actually pleased with me if I could convince her my latest tech purchase had been acquired at a super bargain price through my arcane abilities with "the internet." And since she knew absolutely nothing about about computers this was generally an easy sale.

I remember she was even impressed when I bought GTA: Vice City because I told her I'd got it from the bay for a knock-down price. And she was positively ecstatic when I told her how I'd got my 5900XT super cheap because of an e-tailer's pricing error... :)

Worth a try. :D

Because you want to and it helps you learn?

You should be OC that rig before you upgrade though, push to the limit, if it's not good enough then you have a real excuse.

Ill be paying for it, and lol Strumpusplunket your mum sounds perfect :P
But i dont think my mother will fall for that one somehow lol.

i aint looking at paying credit unless i get proper desperate, get paid twice this month 2nd and the 28th so could save both pay packets and have £2k

Get an AM3 rig and overclock it will be so much more fun, getting high end is something you drool over and when you buy it it's never as fun as you thought it would be. Not enough to justify the cost anyway, just get a nice monitor + peripherals and a good case like the fortress so its nice a quiet and a joy to look at with some good bang for buck components e.g. 720BE 4GB DDR2 or even DDR3 now, 4870 1GB etc. Darn this is my dream actually not yours lol.

my mum just says is that new, what have you done with the old one???
then tells me off for filling up the garage with stuff lol but yes i need to start getting rid/selling some stuff:(

You have a job so why does your mam come into it

My mother was always a control freak. Still is. Try doing anything she doesn't like, even a small thing and she throws a tantrum

His mum may be a control freak too?

Then again, @OP your main system is fine, wait for a year or two, then get an i7 (or whatever takes your fancy then).

I cant imagine my mother ever having a say over the money I've earnt, since I was about 14 I've had my own account which has nothing to do with my parents.

I would normally tell my mum how Im spending the money, but just as small talk, not looking for her approval.

Gotta ask dude, how old are you?
