Hi chaps,

My current set up is:

Asus P5E-VM
C2D E8600
512mb 9800GTX
4GB Ram

Been a while since I have checked out PC tech so I want to get your ideas on what to upgrade?

I don't want to spend a fortune, is something like £300 even do-able

Can you help me out!

For £300 your best option is to look out for a cheap 775 quad like a Q6600 and get it clocked up to 3.4Ghz(ish). Then spend the rest on a good graphics card.
You can find a q6600 second hand for around £45. that £255 on a graphics card.
which is HD6950 / gtx570 territory.

Haven't looked at the actual figures for BF3, nor how much it utilises QC tech, but I'd be surprised if a Q6600 was a massive step up from an E8600...

Saying that, yeah, I reckon you're looking at MSI Twin Frozr 570 GPU wise :)

Well if you want to play BF3 m8 you need a better graphics card for sure,
you will need at least a 560ti http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-266-AS&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1341

I would probably be inclined to upgrade the motherboard and processor as well get an
i5 2500k and a nice motherboard, which also means you will need new memory.

That is completely false information. There's no need for a 560ti for BF3. I'm running BF3 on a 64 player map with High settings at 50-60fps with a 6870. I'm sure it'd run fine on something cheaper than that still.

I would however recommend upgrading your mobo and cpu as the others have said.

It would depend on what CPU you got as well, as something like a SandyBridge CPU could deliver 10-20fps more on minimum fps on the same card, comparing to a Core2.
