I used to have a 1900XTX 512MB and decided to swap it out for an ATI HD 3450 because I wanted a cheapish card for my PC to run all the media stuff like Bluray etc (also run PC as a remote HTPC).

However looks like the 3450 is no good for running anything other than media - it won't run WWII Online, Red Orchestra or MTWII anything like as good as the 1900 did, most of them are unplayable.

The question is, would the 4850 be able to run all these without any problems? And on a scale of 1-100 where would the three cards be roughly performance wise to give me an idea?

Will my slightly aging PC be able to run the 4850 okay?

The rest of the spec is;

AMD 4800x2
2GB Geil 3200 RAM
Asus A8R32 MVP Deluxe

Thanks

Oh and how much would the 1900XTX and 3450 be able to get 2nd hand? The 1900 has an Arctic Cooling S1 attached.

My guess is the 3450 has around 10% of the performance that the 4850 has and the 1900xtx has around 40% of the 4850. Either way the 4850 is a massive upgrade from both cards. It was a slight guess on the 3450 as it could be even less they are more like on board graphics when playing games.

I would guess around £15-20 for the 3450 and at a push around £30-40 for the 1900xtx. If you use the bay make sure you do a nice write up there are some mugs around that pay over what they should.

Thanks for the tips - looks like the 4850 will be a good improvement for me.

One strange thing is that the OcUK page on the summary it says this;

Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4850 PCS Extreme 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

650MHz Core, 512MB 1986MHz GDDR3 Memory, 800 Stream Processors, PCI-Express 2.0, CrossfireX Ready, Avivo HD, 7.1 Surround Sound, 1yr Warranty with TUL/OcUK.

But in the detail it says this;

- Built-in HDMI with 5.1 surround sound support
