Need cheap dumbbells

I'm guessing (due to the rather vague OP) that you want a set that you can add/remove weight to rather than a pair of 'fixed' unchangable. Fixed weights are much more expensive.

You'll be after a 'spindle lock' set. Argos do sets of 50KG with a 2 dumbell handles and a barbell for around £50. This is your best bet as buying weight alone is expensive.

Unless you wan't to go down the olympic route which will be more expensive.

What do you intend to use them for?

I got some York dumbbells, they were £20, but they only go up to 10kg. I got them from Argos, look there, you may find some deals

I picked up a 20kg york set from JJB for 30 quid when I was a kid.

Think hes on about the fixed ones, they are normally pretty pricey

Fixed being the kind you will find on racks and stands in your gym.

The York Spindle Lock sets are 1". Olympic are 2" and have sping loaded collars as opposed to spindle lock.

It depends really. Faffing about changing weights is a pain in the arse especially if you're trying to superset/dropset, unless you want to have 2/3 sets of interchangable dumbells. Much easier to just pick up another fixed weight set of DB's. I think it's something to do with balancing. Hopefully somebody else knows!

Because the discs are large and a pain in the ass when you only need a bit more weight.
Affects my form a little too.

Looks like Argos have some decent York spinlock sets for a low price which ill go for, thanks to the posters with useful comments and advice.

They are really rubbish build quality, and mainly suited for beginners or really casual lifters I would say. You cannot drop them from a height without the spinners getting mashed.
