Hello,

Below my current system, it's running good but perhaps it's time for a little update like the CPU and MOBO

Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz
Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu
XFX 6800GT 256Mb
Creative Audigy 2 ZS
Abit IC7-Max3
OCZ 1Gb kit EL DDR pc-3200
2x WD Raptor 36.7GB S-ATA RAID0
Maxtor DiamondMax S-ATA 120GB
Plextor PX-708A
Plextor PX-116A
Antec TrueBlue 480

Is the selection below any good ?
I have no intent to overclock, just want a good system for gaming.

Asus GeForce 8600 GT 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £69.99
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX (2x1GB) £114.99
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.66GHz (1333FSB) - Retail £106.99
EVGA nForce 680i SLi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (122-CK-NF68-A1) - £149.99

Thx

PS: I'm running windows XP Pro, should I update ?

Looks good, perhaps look at the the ATI x2600XT, sits between the 8600 GT and the 8600 GTS for an extra 20 pounds, HIS or sapphire

HIS ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB GDDR4 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB GDDR4 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

For the rest if your happy with XP at the moment i wouldn't upgrade to Vista. DX10 is unmatture, almost no games. Perhaps in a year or so the transition to vista will be usefull

As for the rest looks good perhaps this mainboard:
Asus P5K-E WiFi Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

p35 mainboards are good and stable, + saves you some money to spend on the grafics card.

Agree with Gunther on mobo, P35 chipset for the win! But please DO NOT go for a 2600 nor 8600 series card, they are poo :(

How about...
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.66GHz (1333FSB) - Retail £106.99
  • Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 2900 Pro SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (21119-00-40R) £149.99
  • GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) £44.99
  • Abit IP35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £79.99
  • Sub Total : £381.96
  • Shipping : £8.95
  • VAT : £68.41
  • Total : £459.32
;)

Will my PSU do for this new config ?
Just noticed they are 2 revisions of that PSU. Please confirm if yours is this? Can also check sticker on PSU...

BUT, 18A on each +12V rail might be a bit low especially for the 2900 (& any future upgrades). What's your budget for the upgrade? Ask because it would be good if you can include a more powerful & newer ATX 2.x PSU ;)

After looking around and reading your advice (thx), I came up with this:

I hope this is a good choice, if not please let me know :)
Thank you.

**EDIT**
Will my case still be able to cool this sytem with 2x 80x80x25 fans ?
