Thinking of getting a bitFenix Prodigy to house a Gigabyte H77N-WiFi motherboard but I don't know what cooler will work with case and board. Won't be overclocking so really just looking for something quiet.

I'm also looking for a PSU that will fit the prodigy. I'm currently using a SG05 with 450 PSU and runs fine so would need at least 450w

My budget is about £100 for both Cooler and PSU

Thanks

I've never really used a stock intel cooler as I've just assumed they were pap! The CPU I'll be using is a i5-3570K Retail. So is the the supplied intel cooler on this good enough? I expect some noise when playing BF3 but while browsing etc. I would like it to be quiet.

Also would this PSU be any good as it seems a bargains at £52.94?

Which PSU? The problem with the prodigy is the PSU size (they should really make a cut out to free the back of the PSU enclosure). That's why the Coolermaster is desirable (anything below 15cm for comfort). Plus, it's modular.

As for the cooler, it's strange you have an unlocked CPU with a locked motherboard. In any case, the retail CPU cooler will be fine. You can always get a 3rd party cheap but quiet CPU cooler, like a Xigmatek Loki. You don't need extra cooling really, but this should keep it quiet and cool. All in all, I'd rather save on the CPU cooler and get a better PSU that wont cause issues. It should be quiet enough but if you can spare an extra £15, then it will be a good investment.

Sorry forgot to paste link etc. updated now though!

I bought the K version because it was a good price at the time and when the time comes to sell it will be more desirable.

I've taken onboard your advice about the coolermaster but I've always like Corsair PSU's and thought the Corsair Builder Series CX 600W V2 as long as it fits is a bargain.

The Xigmatek Loki is a lot of cooler for £15 and if it fits I may end up with one :)

My other concern apart from noise with a CPU cooler is whether it will fit my motherboard as it seems most coolers block the PCie. Ideally I would like a low profile quiet cooler that doesn't extend beyond the width of a intel stock cooler.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Noctua NH-D14 Dual Radiator CPU Cooler (Socket LGA1366/LGA1156/LGA1155/LGA775/AM2/AM2) £59.99
1 x Antec High Current Gamer 400W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £40.00
Total : £110.48 (includes shipping : £8.75).

Bang on the money! :D (£99.98 with free shipping).

If you put the D14 on voltage regulated fan speed by the Gigabyte board (if it supports it) you can set it so it goes to 700rpm at load, and that cools my 4.5GHz 3570K to 66c. Stock it would cool it in the 40's.

D14 overkill, but cool. You could just try the stock cooler at first tbh, should be pretty quiet on stock.

With a 7850 installed, 400W recommended, without GPU less than 300W. Though even with a 7850 it's never going to reach 300W. My 3570K 4.5 on Prime95, 7970 running heaven, with 2 HDD, 1SSD, 8 fans on a 600W psu draws 280W at the plug. That being said, spending extra for the 600W that's on offer isn't a bad idea, but make sure you read a review to see if the fans any good.

1 x Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler (Socket Intel® Socket LGA1366/1156/1155/775/AMD Socket FM1/AM3+/AM3/AM2+/AM2) £23.99

Not a bad combo, I would just try the stock heatsink first though, might be good enough especially if at a distance from the chassis anyway.

Have the 612S in my Q6600 rig, and it keeps it at around 60C overclocked in Prime95 with the fan speed set to 900RPM via the included adapter. It's very, very quiet. Need to put ear to the fan to hear it.

The Hyper 212 Evo is a good cooler and should be fine as for blocking the PCI slot. Not sure but you might even be able to mount it so its exhausting out the top. But dont take my word on that.

Cam.

Thanks guys, lots of useful info.

I'm going to try the stock cooler first as I'm not overclocking and I'd be a fool to spend money if not really needed!

Also going to go with the Corsair Builder Series CX 600W V2 unless anyone says it won't fit the prodigy or it's loud.

To save making a new thread can anybody tell me whether you can have the USB ports etc. mounted on the right side in photo's mount on the left in any way?

Also is it worth buying the BitFenix Spectre 200mm Fan and using it in conjunction with a supplied 120mm fan mounted on the rear. Will this combo provide enough flow while being quite and not obstructing anything like my GTX 670?

The 200 mm is quiet, not silent at full rpm but is quiet. Try with stock cooling, might be plenty. More fans is more noise and more money.

I decided to go with the Corsair TX550M Modular PSU and Re-use a corsair H50-1 cooler. I intend to fit the radiator to the rear of the case with two apache fans in a push/pull configuration.

I've also ordered a 230mm BitFenix spectre pro fan so along with the apache fans fingers crossed it will be cool and quiet!

Another thing I've decided to do is return the Gigabyte H77N-WIFI and purchase a Z77N-WIFI as it was only £10 more and gives me the option of overclocking if I decided to go down that route.

Should all be delivered tomorrow :D
