Need For Speed is dropping EA for Criterion

I thought EA own Criterion? So it'll still be EA, it'll just be developed by Criterion rather than whichever other studio EA had farmed the last few out to?

Doing a bit more digging, it looks like whilst the last few NFS weren't developed by Criterion but by Ghost Games (another EA subsid), 80% of Criterion's development staff moved to Ghost at that time, so it's effectively been the same actual people it would have been anyway. I wouldn't expect much to change :p

hmmm

that doesen't sound good

All I want is NFS Underground 3, a proper modern day successor to the best NFS game. I fail to see how it can be so difficult when the formula for a successful NFS game is so obvious.

Criterion's good name means nothing now. Just like Bioware. EA delivers rubbish and relies on the names of their studios to help sell games. Only works so many times.

Has there been a good NFS in the last 10 to 20 years? :D
Feels like every year, they promise it'll go back to greatness.
It's an IP that's been watered down to nothingness.
