Need For Speed: Shift with the G25?

yep it works brilliant with all racing games, although some require you to put in some time to fine tune and get a decent feel going..

best piece of hardware i've ever bought :)

Apparently it takes a fair bit of work to get to play nicely. I got bored of Shift before I got it quite right. It never worked as well in Shift as it does in GTREvo :p

Ill have to agree with this guy. True Racing sims work soo much better with a wheel than arcades/ NFS Shift style

Been thinking of getting one of these myself, or a steering wheel and pedals really, I'd say i'd get bored of them pretty easy

Can you give some examples of how it doesnt play quite right from the start?

the setup for the G25 in Shift was very generic, you had to alter a few settings to get it to perform well, thats all..

thing is if you buy a G25 your getting one of the best wheels money can buy, so you shouldn't be afraid of having to spend time in various games adjusting and fine tuning it. Theres tons of options within the Logitech software that give you full control of the Force feedback options, sterring lock and sensitivity.. it's all worth the hard work.

also look at other games like rFactor or GT legends which offer a much more realsitic approach to driving simultation.

Shift doesn't work well with the full rotation of the wheel, you'll need to tweak it down a bit. In addition, the I had to maximise the sensitivity in the game. Its all just adjusting sliders and such to your personal taste, but unfortunately you have to quit to the main menu to adjust the wheel options :(

Best...toy...ever! Was so glad i bought this and i hadnt played racing games for about 5yrs and thought i'd like to give that a try :D

What are the graphics like on these two games?

Also more of a generic question i was wondering what using any kind of wheel for a game is like as i have never used one before. Is it as accurate as a controller? Can you drive faster and get better lap times?

expect to crash a lot while you get used to it, but after that you will have such good control over the pedals and steering that a controller just pales in comparison

G25 is awesome with this game.

At least -- very bare minimum -- give yourself 10% deadzone on the steering -- otherwise you'll just fishtail down the road because you're accidentally turning the wheel 1 mm!

Remember to turn 'auto-clutch' off if -- um -- you actually want to use the clutch.

'Auto gears' is wierd when using the H-box as your gear changes DO register -- then the autobox changes the gear back after about a second to the one IT wants to be in! Just remember to turn auto-gears off.

It is totally awesome. on the G25 if the pedals keep sliding all over the carpets when you first set it up -- don't fear -- look underneath the carpets and figure out how to use the 'carpet gripper' thingy!

while on the subject of wheels, anyone upgraded from a Driving force pro to a G25.... if so, much of a difference? my wheel is getting old ;)

The whole kit -- the thing is it is unwieldy rather than plain big.

The lot would probably fit into a box about 2*1*1 foot big. I have such a box under my desk.

The trouble is whenever you boot your PC if the wheel is plugged in to the USB (I leave mine always plugged in), it needs to move the wheel using the internal motors to the maximum left and right lock .. for some reason. And thats a 920 degree turn we're talking about.

Therefore you can not store the wheel somewhere that it can not rotate freely (like upside down on top of the pedals), or horrible things happen when you boot up).

Its not the nicest thing to store, but not totally awful. Best is if you have a spare 2 foot of desk edge you can just leave the wheel and gears bolted to whenever not in use -- then unblot slightly and slide them in front of your monitor when you want to game ..

pedals i leave on the floor and have my feet either side of them when not using it. it is a bit of a pain moving the wheel and shifter round the desk a bit each time but totally worth it. If u have a usb port on top of the PC it is very easy to only plug it in when u need it but as britboy says make sure it has room :p

also hope the desk u are going to use is sturdy (mine is screwed to the wall) cos u will really wrench this thing around, it's almost a workout!

this is a definite must... broke my old monitor due to the desk wobbling and the thing falling off the back :|

Hmmm my desk is very small and not great but sturdy!

Will be moving soon hopefully and will dedicate a whole room to making the perfect setup!
