Hey guys, I’m pretty new to this community but I’ve got just a quick and easy question for you all. I’m hoping some people who know what they are on about would help me. Basically it is my birthday soon and I’m planning on getting some DDR2 gaming ram for my rig.

The current motherboard I am using is: Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L

I am looking for some fast gaming ram. I am dual screening and I use my machine for BD movies/shows, High-end gaming and some editing. My budget will be around £100, just hoping someone will spend a little bit of time to help me on this. Just to confirm, all I am looking for is some high-end fast ram, infact it doesn’t have to be high-end, something around 1066mhz + should do. Thanks.

Thanks Dea924, also this is compatible with my motherboard, right? Also I want to get a few more thoughts on other ram from people too then compare them.

Hi there,

May I ask what CPU, RAM and graphics card you are currently running?

Hey, I am running a Q6600 @ 2.40GHz, 4GB ram, and a Nvidia 9500GT (Crappy card I know, my old one recently broke and I don't got the cash to replace it yet).

Oh also i'm running W7 64Bit just incase you are wondering.

should be perfectly fine running on your board, i use ADATA vitesta gaming ram which to be honest i havent heard anyone on the forum mention bar me :D .. but it's been fine for me pretty fast and no problem :) im also a high end gaming person (Cs:CoD:Crysis:Metro etc etc)

May I ask why you want to buy new RAM? 4GB of even PC2-5300 RAM should be plenty for modern gaming (though it will limit overclocking). Instead, you may want to consider investing you £100 in a new GPU like this or this which will give you a massive gaming performance increase.

I tend to get carried away with dual screening (Movies/Games/Editing etc on 2nd screen) and use a lot of my ram % up, plus i'd rather have the extra ram so that doesn't happen anymore. Also about the GPU, I will be purchasing one a little bit after my birthday after a few jobs.

What are you running that needs all the RAM?

If you are worried that your RAM usage is high - it is most likely due to Windows's 7s Superfetch, not applications gobbling up all your memory. Unlike in previous versions of windows you don't want to see a lot of unused memory (as it is going to waste) so long as it's not overflowing.

I tend to play games on my main screen while watching a BD movie/show on 2nd. Plus as I stated above i'd much rather get the ram 1st then go for a new GPU a little bit after. I do have other things opened but those are the main ones.

i got the ocz gold stuff, touch cheaper than kingston, seems pretty decent, ive just put in a second set, as before i had 2 sticks of ocz gold, 2 stick of some geil 6400, so i always ran at 1/1 and 400fsb (800ddr ram speed)

just playing about with these 4 sticks of ocz gold :D

422x9 so 3.8ghz atm :D

Ok, well if you are convinced you need more RAM, then I'd be happy to recommend you some.

Would you be able to tell us the make and model number of your existing set? I'm assuming its 2x2GB, right?

With this info we can find another 2x2GB kit to add to your existing set and give you 8GB of stable running memory.

Yes it is 2x2GB. Anything you think that would be worth getting to fill the extra two slots and will work my mobo. Thanks in advanced, also I am going to lay down for a bit i'll check back in a few hours.

Me need to know the rated frequency, voltage and timings of your existing modules before we can specify new ones to complement them.

The easiest way to get the info is to download and run CPU-Z and post a screenshot of the "SPD" tab.

As you already have 4GB of RAM spending £100 on new RAM for gaming would be a complete waste of money given that you have a 9500GT. If you 'dont have the cash' to buy a new graphics card then you definitely don't want to be flushing money down the toilet on new RAM.

The gaming gains from a Radeon 5770 (under £100 new) or preferably a secondhand GTX460 or similar would dwarf that from investing in new memory.
