Hello all!

I'm currently running of a 32mb PCI Card Which means im running my 22" at like 17" res. :(
So i need a new card, im on a budget so it needs to be sub £30; i will buy second hand, (here, ebay ect)
PCI-E

Uses;
Photoshop
Counterstrike
Everyday use

Any ideas?

With them cards is it the higher the better? E.g;

Best; 8800
Middle; 8600
Worse; 7900

And GT? and GTS? GS?

I'd try and save a little bit more money, if you want to play any of the newer games at your monitors native resolution. I'd recommend the Asus 4850 for £80, this would be absolutely ideal and is currently a steal at that price.

Your best bet will be a used GPU from our very own Members Market

I saw a nice 9600GT sell today for £37.50 inc and used 8800GT's go for around £45-£50 inc delivery.

I recently bought a used boxed palit 8800GT for £45.00 inc from Jimbu in the Members Market and it's a great card for the money! . . . will give a 8600GT a good tonking! :p

+1 for having a look on the MM.

If you're willing to go for an older model, you could get something like an X1800 which would be more than capable if you decided to dabble in some gaming.

That's thanks to nVidia deceptive marketing! :(

The 9600GT is a 8800GT with half the shaders (i.e the 8800GT is faster).

The nVidia Marketing department are hoping the punter will think "Oh the 9 series must be better than the 8 series" etc

Yeah we have given nVidia a good bashing for the last several months over this, thought everyone knew that nVidia rebranded their cards like crazy but obviously not . . . .

For under £50 there isn't much that can touch a used 8800GT for the cash-deprived FPS gamer! :cool:
