hi,im new to this forum and in need of help/advice
i have a 5 year old pre-built pc and im thinking of upgrading it.

the current specs of this pc are as follows:
intel celeron D @ 2.93GHz
asus motherboard,do not know what model
768mb DDR memory
75gb HDD
250w psu

i do not intend to run crysis on highest settings as i only have a 15" monitor.

i cannot buy all the parts at once as i am on a budget. im thinking of upgrading 1 or 2 components each month with budget of £100 max each month.

which component(s) should i buy in the first month and in the folliwing months
if possible can you make it as cheap as possible?:D

thanks in advance.

Do you intend to run Crysis on lower settings? you've not said what the PC will be for, just what you're *not* using it for. ;)

I don't want to sound negative but it's a complete non-starter on every level. It's either a new PC or keep what you have. Save the £100 a month for 5-6 months and buy a new PC.

@Redmint
i want to use the pc for gaming
i mostly play DotA,Shaiya and S4 league.
btw i play these games on my laptop on low-med settings and would like to play them on the pc on med-high settings,prefferably high

@mame
does that mean that i cant upgrade it step by step and that i have to buy all components all at once if i want to upgrade it?

A modern PC will need a new motherboard socket, a PCI-E graphics slot, a higher rated PSU, a new type of RAM, a new HDD using SATA not IDE, New CPU (which won't fit your current motherboard) and realistically, a new OS. There's just no practical way of doing all of this in stages.

oh
i thought i could buy a new lga 775 motherboard and a ddr2/3 ram and use the celereon d cpu and the other parts and continue replacing the old parts with new ones until i finish the new build with new parts.

Is it socket 478?

i ran the lastest cpu-z and it said that its a socket 775 LGA (90nm)
sorry i couldn't post pictures as the pc froze right after i ran cpu-z

@mc
that wouldnt be much of an upgrade since the ram is a DDR and i think the gpu slot is an agp slot.:D
id like to play todays games on med-high prefferably high settings on a 15" monitor.:D:D
once its finished its something id like to call a budget light gaming pc

What kind of DDR?
there are multiple generations of Ram DDR, DRR2 won't work on DDR3 for example (well not well).
And there are almost no motherboards available which take AGP slot anymore, which would mean upgrading video card to a PCI-E slot one, as most of them need a bit more power than AGP ones you'd probably have to replace PSU too.

To be honest, half the parts you have now are too old to work with any new components.
Save up and buy a new PC in a few months, it'll be well worth it. (and makes much more sense, the average life of a PC being good is about 3 years, they don't age well.)

DDR1 lol
well this is how i planned on upgrading it but wanted some advice from people with experience.
1st month-mobo(lga 775) and ram(ddr2/3) and case if mobo is atx form
2nd month-cpu,cooler
3rd month-case,psu
4th month-gpu
maybe if i have extra buy a new hdd.
i wanted it to turn out as a budget gaming pc.
but i guess im just being stubborn :D

I wouldn't bother tbh
If u get a new motherboard it won't have agp to use ur gpu
So ull either need to get onboard or new gpu at the same time

Even so ull end up investing in old tech and have the same problems when u try to upgrade in the future

I would save up your money and build a decent computer along side the one you have now. You'd be surprised at what you'll be able to build on 3-4 month's worth of saving £100.

Just save it up for 4 months.
Also consider buying a second hand bundle especially if you can find someone selling a C2Q Q6600 as that will last you a while and a GTX260 or a ATI 4870/4890. Also why no treat yourself to a bigger monitor, it will make all the difference to your gaming.

If you can spec it all second hand you will get a much better budget rig than buying new

Trying to upgrade that would be similar to getting a leather interior, chrome wheels and a spoiler fitted to a lada.

Just aint gonna happen.

Probably the only thing you could salvage would be the case. Get saving those pennies for a nice 400ish system.
