Hi guys. I am currently trying to build my pc.
I never got very before i need some advice,
Here is my specs
DS3 motherboard
Intel E6400 processor
2gig ram

The thing is i am just fitting the processor to the motherboard and well it seems to allign up and fit in ok but after putting the little metal cover back over it and attempting to pull the lever down to secure it in place

it needs a lot of force to push down, I stopped because it felt like i might damage something if i use that much force.
However i am new to this and stupid into the bragain so does it really need to use that ammount of force and i am just paranoid, or is there something wrong with the way i have put it in?

yes, when u pull the lever down, it does need quite a force. its normal. but before doing so, double check that ** cpu is correctly placed.

True that.

When I was putting in my CPU, I was a bit concerned with the amount of pressure. The manual didn't really help much, so I just said to myself "I am sure it's fine" and pressed down and it snapped in place.

Having said that though, I would rather install 5 of these CPU's than 1 athlon 64 CPU. The heat sink was a pain to install on them, especially when working in confined spaces.

Got the heatsink on put the RAm in, attached the motherboard to inside of case and attached graphics card :)

i am using the default heatsink that comes with E6400 i have a Scythe Ninja but i forgot to buy thermal paste when ordering my pc :o
So i have to use the intel heatsink thats already got some paste on it.

Right now im just trying to fit in my DVD RW and Hard Drive in the Antec 900 case, unfortunatly it seems that both side panels have to be off to do this and i hae already installed the motherboard in there lol.
I am glad i have got this far though :)

But i am not looking forward to having to figure out where all they wee LED and PWR wires go in the board

Tell me about it, I spent 30 minutes putting most of it together and another 30 getting those fiddly little ******** in place!

That's the hardest part of the build - but also the least likely to actually cause damage!

The buttons work either way and the LEDs only work one way and do nothing the other way. Best bet is to be consistant with the small labels - all face one way or the other. 50/50 you are right on all!

Thanks man, i am gonna do just that after my smoke break :)

Right now i have the hard drive and DVD RW installed in the case aaswell. I haveattached the 2 main power cables from the Corsair 520w power supply to the mother board, attched a power lead to the hard drive and dvd, connected the SATA cables from the hard drive and dvd to the motherboard and attached the right power cable for my graphics card. (hopefully all fitted up correctly)

So right now i am having a smoke break, then going to connect all the wee LED and PWR cables and prepare for the moment of truth when i flick the switch to turn it on :)

HELP!

Ok, i got everything connected and went to turn on the PC.
Everything looked fine except the CPU fan was not spinning :(
All the case fans worked, the blue leds worked, the graphics card fan was spinning so i assume that worked, the screen came up on the monitor with a page full of info then it said something like please insert boot cd.
But i never had time to read the screen because as soon as i seen the CPU fan was not spinning i turned off the PC.

I double checked all the wires and everything and tried again, same thing, the processor fan just kinda chugs for like 2 revolutions then comes to a stop, chugs for another resolution slow as hell then stops. I turned the PC of straight away again as i read that it is not good for the computer to run without a CPU fan for more than a few seconds.

Is this a problem any of you have had before?
Any advice you can give to try and fix it?
I really need your help guys

in the bios settings u will be able to choose weather it spins all the time or it is temp set. so it will kick in at a certain temp (its cold at the moment) then it will get faster (and louder) the warmer it gets.

Really? wow thanks man i hope that is the case. are you sure though, cos in all the guides i have read they say if the CPU fan is not spinning then turn the PC off straight away?
Like i said though my fan did kinda chug a little and maybe it would have revved right up if i gave it some more time.
Should i go into the BIOS then and set it to spin all the time and see if it works?
There is no chance of burning out my spanking new processor in that space of time?

the way to tell is. if u turin it on and look in bios (keep a finger on the heatsink to see if its hot)

IT WORKED .
Thanks for the advice mate, if you never told me that i would have been to paranoid to tun it on again for more than a few seconds :)
went into PC health Check and set it to pwg and legacy(as i seen someone mention in doing a search)
And my CPu is running nice at 27c

And everything seems to be working perfectly first time, all the LEDS and what not, i am well chuffed :)
Right now i am just waiting for windows to install so i can properly check it.

it took me a while since it is the first time a build a PC and i had a lot of stupid questions, but the kind that you only need to be told once then from now on i will know exactly what to do.
Thanks for your help guys i appreciate it.

But i will be back with more stupid questions when i tweak and overclock(small overclock) the system :)
