Thanks

Its hard to know till the game comes out

TW3 is an open world game, these are generally very CPU heavy, and are the sort of games that AMD cpus perform badly compared to Intel CPU's normally.

We wont know for sure till the game comes out and is Benched to see if it can utilize 8 threads.

What CPU do you have atm?

unless you have FX6300 or below, the only real upgrade would be Intel.

if I was you'd wait till June and make the upgrade to Broadwell then.

I would say upgrade to a 4690k/4790k build or if you can wait till mid-late summer get the equivalent Broadwell then.

In gaming the FX cpus are nowhere near as good as intel i5/i'7's in the vast majority of titles.

Can grab an I5/z97 mobo bundle for £266 atm.Which is about the same price the 9590 would cost you(would need an expensive cooler for this on top of the cpu price remember)

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus Z97-K - Devils Canyon Core i5 4690K Bundle **£14 Saving** £266.58
Total : £276.18 (includes shipping : £8.00).

If you want to not blow a massive chunk of cash on that kinda upgrade your best path is prob a cheap 8 core and overclock it
YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8320 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £119.99
Total : £128.69 (includes shipping : £7.25).

that Phenom is sure old, but for sake of 3 months, I'd wait for Broadwell.

that will sort you for few years.

I'm in the same boat......was going to get an i5 4690k/z97 as an upgrade to a Phenom 960T/880 as a 40th birthday treat a couple of weeks ago, but the prevailing advice here was to wait for Broadwell in a couple of months....so I'm waiting and will reward my patience with an additional Phanteks enthoo pro :D

Think im just gonna go with the AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 9590 Black Edition 4.70GHz (5.00GHz Turbo) (Socket AM3+) Processor and buy a Corsair Hydro H80i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler to go with it .

That board only supports CPU's up to 140W, that chip's 220W ;)

Stick one of these in for now, seen plenty of them running at 4.7 without too much effort. Then save your pennies to see what comes out later in the year.

That would be a poor investment of money IMO

A stock I5 is substantially better in a lot of games and is on a newer chipset with modern features. When the price is about roughly the same i5/z97 combo is far better than a 9590+a cooler for gaming

Any modern GPU will sort you for a few years now. Especially given the CPU race is pretty much over and devs are just working with what they have.

In any modern game what CPU you have makes absolutely no difference. TBH? the Phenom is probably more appropriate now than it ever was.

As we head into threaded territory 5 FPS separates every single CPU on the market, including the 5960x.

Complete nonsense as always. Plenty of CPU bound games out there. You can't drive the top GPU's on Phenom's, Andy know this but continues to post gibberish.

Well.. sandybridge "k" onwards and I'd agree, though phenom is probably pushing it.

One minute Andy posts this:

Then the next minute, he posts this:

I used to run a I5 2400 non K (well, in Xeon flavour) and it used to bottle neck the crap out of me in gaming due to the lame 3ghz or so clock.

I rest my case.

It's been obvious for a while that he'll say whatever it takes to sell someone an AMD FX processor in any given thread, I feel sorry for those who listened to him and didn't upgrade to an Intel of sorts as they're missing out in most cases.

Can you unlock the 2 extra cores? That should help!

He has intel and Amd rigs, the andy bashing is silly. Not everyone with an opinion has an agenda.

I wouldn't wait for broadwell personally, I cant see it being much better. It hasn't been for a few years.
If you going to wait, make it skylake, if not then I'd buy now.
