Hi all.

I am currently preparing to upgrade / rebuild my main desktop, and while I am at it I think it is finally time for a change of case.

My current case is a CM stacker STC-T01 and as good as it is, it is starting to show its age. It has a near total lack of cable management facility, there is no cut out for cpu cooler on the motherboard tray, there is no USB3 on the front panel and it is starting to look just a bit dated.

Anyway, basically I am looking for an upgrade and the following cases come to mind:

CM Storm Trooper
Akasa Venom Toxic / Aerocool X-Predator - Any difference between these?
Corsair 650D or possibly 600t

My current marginal favourite is the trooper, but my current case seems big and it seems that the trooper is far more massive still? If someone who owns one could post a photo of it standing against something for size reference I would appreciate it.

I know all of these cases have been discussed at length individually, but I havent been able to find a direct comparison. I want something that is a bit more eye catching than what I already have, without being ridiculous ala certain thermaltake cases. Also I am going to mention now that I am not a fan of the antec case designs - I just don't like the way they look.

My budget is around £140 - including fans where neccessary

I am open to other suggestions, the only real requirements are that the case has room for a thermalright archon with 2 fans, and 2 HD5850s (with room for upgrading to a larger card/s in the future). I am likely to stick with air cooling for the foreseeable future so water cooling facility, while nice, is not necessary.

Your opinions as users would be grately appreciated, I am hoping to make the purchase next weekend. Thanks in advance!

Hi, thanks for the reply

I did look on youtube but the videos usually just show cases standing by themselves or on a desk with nothing nearby to compare for size. For instance, in separate youtube videos the CM Cosmos 2, Silverstone TJ07 and Corsair 800D all look about the same size. But when stood next to each other, as in one video, there is a clear size difference between each.

Until recently I was under the impression that full tower cases were all very similar in size, but now I can see I am mistaken.

Other than the size thing, do you have any experience with any of the cases listed? Or perhaps have a suggestion as to one you think is better?

out of the cases listed I like the Corsair cases from an aesthetic point of view but for cooling it looks like the Storm trooper could be better with the two 120mm fans in the front. Both of the cases have USB3 support.

Thanks JayyCee. The corsair cases are an interesting option because while they are officially mid tower cases, they are almost as large as my old stacker full tower. Out of interest, between the 600t and the 650d, which one would you go for?

Again personal choice really as case is very much aesthetics as much as anything else (if youre looking at cases in similar league with equivalent features) I think the 600T in white with the PC P&C white silencer PSU and carrying on the white theme looks really smart actually, but equally you cant beat the timeless black and clean lines the 650D offers

The 650D and the 600T both have the same internal chassis so there isnt much of a difference apart from aesthetics. They both have fan controllers and USB3 ports etc. I prefer the 650D but thats because I have always liked the look of the 800D.
