now ive looked at all my games and 9/10 of them are nvidia perferd games and i have a budget of £200 max for a gpu also is nvidia physix worth having ???

the games i will be playing are

metro 2033
crysys warhead
bfbc2
hawx 2
mafia 2
GTA
COD 4/MW2/BO
css
WOW
sc2
etc...

so yeah as you can see lots and lots or games and i have a dozen more on my steam account lol

is a gtx 470 a good choice ???

Well, I wouldn't worry about css or wow, these are more cpu dependent games. SC2 might also benefit more from the cpu though I haven't played it so I don't know for sure on that one.

Mafia 2, Hawx 2 and Metro 2033 are nvidia friendly games, where as (I think) BFBC2 is superior on AMD cards. Crysis Warhead, surprisingly runs better on AMD also iirc. I'm not sure about COD 4 / MW2 / BO - though for the first two I wouldn't say it matters what brand you have. I haven't played Black Ops and honestly can't remember what appear to be in favour atm there.

GTA (4?) also is heavily cpu dependent from things like draw distance but iirc it works a little better on nvidia gpu's.

I'd go for a 6950. TBH the brand doesn't matter too much as long as it's still smooth and runs at 45+ FPS. The 6950 i believe is quieter and takes less power. You will also have the option of eyefinity and cheaper 3D most likely. You have to decide which technologies are most suited to you. PhysX is NOT worth it. I tied it for a while and all it succeeded in doing was raising all my temps and blocking the fans off. In 2 or 3 games there was a slight difference.

If you are upgrading ur monitor u may want to wait for 3D ones with HDMI 1.4 and DP 1.2. Your call whether or not you would use 3D. If you do want it, then ATI could be cheaper as you don't have to buy all that nVidia ****

hmmm what happens if i ran a ATI card on a nvidia perferd game ???

do you notice anything also havent the new ATI drivers been causing problems latley ???

personally i would go 470 i've just got one and even though the average fps are down on my 275 sli onb many games the minimum is higher so it just feels a lot smoother so i would take that into account when comparing the 2 setups and hunt down the diffrence between the min fps as most sites only show the average :)

You need another card for PhysX but it really is not worth it. I would go for 5850 xfire as they O/C really well. Seriously, don't bother with PhysX. Also, PhysX can work with ATI cards.

Yea, but that's comparing to a standard GTX470. The Gigabyte GTX470 SOC is clocked at 700MHz, so it's 5870 speed out of the box and no slower than the 6950. Also, 6950 has no PhysX support for the games that use it, and if PhysX is something the OP want, the Gigabyte GTX470 SOC is a great choice at just £211.

Also Metro2033 aside, more than half the games on that list prefer Nvidia card more than AMD/ATI.

i have msi afterburner so overclocking shouldn't be a problem and i have the nvidia air duct in the case with a 120mm fan on so cooling shouldn't be an issue either

AMD fanboy much? in your world it's basically buy any card(s) so long as it's not Nvidia then?

To the OP as Marine-RX179 has mentioned most of the games you listed prefer Nvidia cards, something which our friend Cleeecooo seems to be overlooking ;)
