Hi I'm new to the forums

I am currently trying to decide how to upgrade my current PC, i have a budget of around £900 and would like to move on from my Dual Core E5200 (which i feel is greatly outdated now :D) to an i7 with some Overclocking potential, also a motherboard to match, some DDR3 Ram and a cooler that will keep up with my overclocking needs :P i have had my eye on the Asus Rampage 3 Extreme, but i am not sure if that is simply overkill. Also Corsairs Dominator GT ram.

Also a new case needs to be in this budget as my case at the moment is getting old.

Any suggestions, maybe something that has worked for you

I would have coarse be buying all my parts from overclockers as they a great :D

Thanks James

do you need a new psu? graphics card? harddrive? optical drive? operating system?

what size/resolution is your monitor?

assuming you need everything apart from windows and a optical drive.

Sorry my post was abit brief, this is an upgrade i have everything but im wanting to upgrade to i7 from my core 2 duo and therefore of coarse need new mb and ram. As of my gpu i have just got 5770 about a month ago. Power suppy is 650 w not sure if ill need some more power.

So basically for £900

Cpu
Motherboard
Ram

Case
cooling
Psu mabye

what psu? make and model please? you may have a decent one that will last.

and do you need a harddrive, or keep your existing one, and add a SSD?

My psu is an EZcool atx 650jsp (im guessing it stucks, not a popular make i think)

As of HDD i am fine but and SSD would be nice if that could be squeezed into the budget

probably a bit OTT on the psu, but it will power all that and a second 5770 if you ever wanted crossfire, easily, could even get away with the 650w model, but its out of stock.

I think you should go for an AMD phemon because it is quad core and had much overclocking potential with some good watercooling. Also you may be able to fit an nvdia gt 210 into the budget.
A good solid state hard drive is this one as it is fast and holds many files
www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-006-IN

huh?

what do you think a i7 920 is? single core?

a 40gb SSD will be filled up with windows and around 2-3 games.

and a nvidia gt210 is the worst graphics card ever, the O.P already has a ATI 5770, which is around 2000% better

I think the gt 210 is a good graphics card as it can run crysis on medium and has a good framr rate for the price.
Also, you could buy 2 of the hard drives for more space.
With a phemon, you could overclock it to be better than the i7.

oh dear.

a GT210 is so slow, unless your running crysis at 800X600 with all low settings? it wont be smooth.

and if you overclock a i7, guess what happens? it leaves a PhenomII quad core behind.

Have I not been paying attention or did that Vertex drive just get cheaper in the last couple of days? :o

Anyhow this cooler should also be fine (OCuk use it in their overclocked bundles). However the H50 Stulid suggested is decent too, using one in my rig atm.

For crossfire 5770s even the OCZ ModXStream 600W would do the trick fine. :)
