Need help fixing itouch 4th gen

hey guys, my itouch has been working perfectly for the past few months. All of a sudden my "downloadable" apps have stopped opening for me. Everytime I go to open an app that I have downloaded the screen acts as if it is going into the app, then cancels and goes back to the main screen. I can open the music player and safari ect. But when it comes to apps it just doesn't open them. Any of you guys have any previous experience with this?
P.S I have tried turning it off and on.

Have you tried a hard reset?

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for approx 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

This may help on an iPod Touch, not sure about on the itouch though, as such a thing doesn't exist

Yes I tried that and it didn't work

i had to format/reset, then re download/install all the apps and music
mines didn't even try to open the apps though, but sounds like the same thing
