What would you upgrade to increase my fps?

Currently running triple 24 inch monitors in 5760 x 1080
i5 4690k
8 gigs of ram
Gigabyte z97x-sli
R9 280x
I Also have two of the 280x cards but my son is using the other.

My choices are upgrading to a GTX 1060 gpu or upgrading my CPU, motherboard and ram to an i5 8400 and 16 gigs.

Mainly play R6 Siege and occasionally fortnite.

With my setup now I get steady 60fps
With medium settings but I'd like to achieve high or ultra high.

Agreed with @orbitalwalsh . GPU is first to be upgraded.
Don't forget 3x 1080p screens is 75% of 4k. That's a lot of pixels to push.
Then another 2*4gb set of ddr3 ram bought second hand.
Then a used 4790k and you have a very decent mid/high-end computer.

Yeah I could get a 1070 or 1080 but for the games I play is it worth it, and for twice the price do you get twice the speed? Is it that much of an advantage? I could also upgrade the ram easily enough, so I'll probably do that too. Thanks for the replies, I've chosen to upgrade my GPU and Ram, I believe my CPU is good for another year and after that I can hand it down to my son or daughter.

If you were running just 1 1080p monitor then you could get away with a 1060.

???
I'm already running my 280x on medium settings with the 3 monitors just fine and ultra settings on 1 monitor no problem as well, so I would think a 1060 should be a considerable upgrade?

1060 6gb is the minimum i'd advise on. but it's only about 50% faster than a 280x - not worth the upgrade.
definitely 1070ti recommended - this will be a much better upgrade and will run 3x1080p ultra probably.
