I need help here guys

I want to upgrade my cpu mainly because mine has decided to be a pre madonna and run temps of 78C to 82C on load all of sudden. through testing looks like it is giving up the gohst. it is a AMD Phenom 9650 quad 2.30GHz.

So answer me these qestions 3 please :P

1. My motherboard is Asus M2N68 chipset is MCP68, Is the socket AM2+ and is that compatiable with a "AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.40GHz (Socket AM3)" upgrade?

2. do you think my old proccesor could have fused to the MB at those temps?

and 3. Would i see a lot of game and encoding speed up benifit from the upgrade to that proccessor?

extremly greatful for any help

MY specs in full:

AMD Phenom 9650 quad 2.30GHz
Asus M2N68 MCP68 ( chipset = nforce 560 sb= nforce 630a)
8 gig ddr2 ram (dram freq is 400mhz)
vtx ati 5770
win7

the cpu wont fuse to the board at those temps, they are pretty high but not high enough to cause damage

1 yes the board will support it

2 no certainly not, if your reaching those temps though, you might want to look at an aftermarket cpu cooler,
look Here , most are compatible with amd boards and configurations and you'll see a huge drop in temps even with the most basic ones ( i use arctic freezer pro, it's a gem for silly money ;) )

you'd possibly see decent increases on both gaming and video encoding,
it's a healthy enough jump in clock speeds that video encoding would see the biggest increase ;)

I will remember the heatsink/cooler upgrade but i got my heart set on a new cpu now lol.

so my final qestion would be my manual for the board says it suppourts up to 140W processors. though here says it will only suppourt up to the 955:
http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-ASUS/M2N68.html considering they are both 125 watt i dont see the conflict but its confusing as hell to me.

and does the pcb matter? is my pcb fine? what is pcb? lol

Thanks btw the help is gold and i want to get a cpu on order before the "this week only savings" are gone lol

ignore what it officially supports, it's the wattage that matters, it will run it, no mobo manufacturer can officially say at time of launch what cpu's it's board will support of the potential life of the board, it's not possible,

does the pcb matter? huh?
pcb means printed circuit board, it's what the motherboard and it's various connections are basically composed of lol,
your pcb will be fine, just dont bend it, smack it, pour water on it or anything like that lol

think i will buy the 955 then when i need more spec buy a artic like you said and oc. just realized i was gonna pay £20 for 0.20ghz. lol

Will say how it goes :P
