Whats the rest of your system and what do you need this pc for?

just solid bulletproof long hour gaming.. here is my rig spec

There's no point having a badass overclocking motherboard + heatsink if you wont overclock at all - the sabertooth is pretty overkill even if you do. Just swap the CPU for the k-edition and then if you want to OC at some point you at least have the option.

Maybe swap the samsung evo SSDs for 840 pros?

This. I don't really see the point of not getting a k chip. Overclocking is quite easy these days and the k chips don't cost loads more over non k variants.

Might be worth looking at the AMD Centurion. It comes clocked really high out of the box.

The issue with locked CPUs is that they don't come clocked high enough. This can end up retiring a perfectly good CPU because you can't give it a shove later.

And

And a refurb h100

Or H80

Now before any one throws a fit...

That CPU comes with a clock speed pretty much the same as an overclocked AMD. Yes you're paying for it in ways, but it's worth it.

I bought a Xeon E3 1220 for £145 and it lasted 11 months before Crysis 3 retired it. Really not a good idea with games crying out for cores and clock speed now.

ollie2k13, I would agree with ALXAndy, but get a different board.

I have a UD3 rev 1 since 2011 (with latest BIOS), and hasn't left me with such a good opinion to advice someone else to get it.

As for not overclocking, my FX8350@5G performs like a dream, and nowadays you can use AMD overdrive to do the overclocking from Windows with AMD safely managing any adventurous settings.

Also get windows 8 (8.1). Apparently they are better for gaming, even if annoying as OS.

Because Asus boards have auto overclocking profiles, could just get a 4770K, then set it to 4.4GHZ with CPU level up and then forget about it.

You could go with an Intel Xeon E3-1230V3. It's a 4770 without the in-built graphics chip and is a fair bit cheaper and runs a little cooler than its i7 counterpart. That is if you REALLY don't want to overclock.

Yeah I've heard there are issues with the UD3. Figured they'd have it sorted now, but there are plenty of great 990 8+2 boards around the £100 mark.

Obviously the Sabertooth and CHVFZ go without saying. But yeah, AMD offer the highest clocks out of the box which is important (if we use Alex's BF4 benchmarks for example).

The Xeon 4770 'a like' might also be an option, but it needs to have plenty of raw clock speed.

Should be more than good enough.

Was used there with the 9590 for review.

I've got the Xeon I mentioned in my current rig. It has a base clock of 3.3Ghz and a boost clock of 3.7Ghz. This is still more powerful than a stock FX-8350, which, at that speed was compared to a 2600k at 2.5Ghz (Don't quote me on that, I can't remember where I read it, but I did). Why I went with it, along with the power savings.

You compare items that are not on the same price level.

A 4770 makes more sense than a 2600K but both are twice as much than a FX8350 for +20% (4770) or same (2600K) the performance. (still the FX has 8 cores)

If money wasn't an issue, I would propose a 4930K. But that is twice as much as a 4770 for ~20% the perfomance. :D

This is an example of a game that can take full advantage of the FX-8350's 8 'cores'. A game that only uses 1-4 is where you'd find that an FX-8350 doesn't perform so well. Indie games for instance, I'm sure that in a test between the FX-8350 and a 3570k the FPS was almost doubled on the 3570k (If I remember rightly) as the IPC just isn't as high on the FX-8350.

If you are on quite a tight budget, you can get an FX-8350 and motherboard for as little as £180, (If you're on a really tight budget you could get an 8320 for £25-ish less if I remember right). However, if you are on less of a price restraint I'd go for an Xeon E3-1230V3 ESPECIALLY if you don't want to overclock.

from your grid of CPU's a i7 4770k is second from top ~ 3.5ghz, so why dont i just buy a i7 4771 @ 3.5ghz which is surely just the same but a little cheaper

so there is a overclock button on the board, i might aswell buy a highend motherboard then with the i7 4770k and just crank it up to 4ghz+ right?

Most boards have some form of auto overclocking feature. I don't see any point in these expensive boards for Haswell as the cpu itself is the limiting factor, not the options in the bios. If you will never be running dual graphics cards the Gigabyte Z87-D3HP is a good choice plus it comes with a free decent cooler.

just say if i go for the i7 4771 because i really cant be bothered to overclock for just 10fps+ if not less increase, would the standard i7 4771 @ 3.50ghz be bottlenecking my GPU card msi 780 lightning which will be overclocked?
