cheers mate.

I have been not well for some 6 months, bad bowel problems along with periodic throat infections and general unwellyness. After being ****** about with GP's and the NHS I finally decided to go to BUPA after I was told I would have to wait 6 months for an out patient appointment after various tests (nice  ) that turned up with nothing.. bloods and everything came back clear. Throughout this time I have been plaiged with, what only can be described as, a decaying metalic taste.... it got so bad that my G/F would ask me not to breathe in her direction as it turned her stomache. I just presumed that it was connected to my ailing insides. However, tonight over a nice chineese meal I poured us some drinks, some dilouting juice for me and plain water for her from the mains.... which from the start was a mistake as she only drinks bottled water. When she sipped the water she told me it tasted exactly like what she had smelt from my breath....

Now I have managed to get into 5 out of 6 of my neighbours flats and all the water tastes like the same... to varying degrees. Some cannot detect the taste, much to my dismay, however I think this is down to the fact they are smokers.. as am I, which explains my apparent lack of taste buds until the G/F pointed it out. Two of my neighbours can taste/smell however they do not drink tap water regularly so they have not been affected. The samples I took from the top landing (three floors) seem to be the most contaminated. All of our water tanks are fed directly from the piped mains, there is no header tank in the atic. I have these all in sterial sample tubes which i hope to get analysed.

I have phoned Scottish water who repeatedly say it is chlorine as they are 'flushing the system', no mater how often I tell them I know how that tastes and smell (hence independent analysis). They have faxed my complaint to the head office and if they do not call within 10 minutes as they said they will I shall give them another ring...

if it turns out to be the water that has been causing me to be ill what chance do you think there is of action against them for negligence? I'm not thinking of ££ more the pain and distress and time off work that may have been caused if it is the water..

anyone experienced similar?

Just as a quick thought, is it worth you taking a sample maybe from the worst of the places you managed to get into if worse than yours just to have for an idependant test - dunno what it would cost though.

money isn't an issue here. I have samples from most of the stair yes so if I do not get a satisfactory answer from Scottish Water by tomorrow, or some sort of effort from their behalf to look into this I will look into water testing then phone my lawyer and see what he thinks..

and no return phone call as of yet, and the phone number the woman gave me is now conviently off the hook

what the heck is the yellow zone L-F?

I am down near granton, and I think the contamination could stem from the regeneration of the waterfront with them hooking up new builds to the mains...

Is this you?

In Old Town the water from the mains is yellow, due to contamination. Just do a news search for Edinburgh yellow water. Apparently it isn't harmful though, but I won't drink it...

ah gotcha. My dad has a house down the cannongate, cannot say I have ever noticed discoloured water at his but I'll look next time

has there been any plumbing done on the building you live in? sometimes you get flux left in the pipes after they have been soldered which can contaminate the water.

hopefully its not the same prob they had in kent ages ago where the water company contaminated the water with aliminium and everybodies hair turned green
