@ the mo i got an asus p8z68-v pro motherboard and i5 2500k sandybridge chip
but i want to up grade the motherboard so i can get PCI-e 3 so i can upgrade the graphics card.

any good info which motherboards to go for but at the mo i want to keep the chip untill i get more funds

You dont need to upgrade the motherboard to be able to upgrade the GFX card.

Also if you keep the 2500K then you will still be at 2.0 speeds with a new board as its the actual chip that hosts the PCI-E controller.

not sure what you mean by You dont need to upgrade the motherboard to be able to upgrade the GFX card?

Theres nothing wrong with your current board is there?

What do you think you will be gaining from getting say a Z77 board? PCI-E3.0?

If you use a Sandybridge CPU such as your 2500K on a Z77 board it will still be PCi-E2.0 and not 3.0 as the CPU is what has the PCI controller on its die.

Finally see here - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=22815200&postcount=4 - and see how the difference is minimal between 2.0 vs 3.0
