OK. An update. I never took the stupid retention clip into consideration when playing with the orientations. With the MSI heatsinks in the way It was only two options. Have the fan sucking hot air from the GPU etc, or mount it the other way. So now the fan faces the ... I'll post a photo in a minute.
P.S. the bolts are really hard to screw in aren't they? You don't have much room to screw them in with the heatsink in the way.
I have a coolermaster V8 on my own system and it was a much more seamless install... really good contact with the cpu and was super easy to screw in with a hex key screw thingy... none of this burst your thumb open nonsense.
What case you got by the way? also you might want to ignore my method as i think you will not fit it due to the ram stick like Stulid said earlier and also blowing upwards to the top exhaust out of the top of the case generally works better if the top exhaust fan is large.
