need help installing windows. even my dad is stumped

the problem is solved now. i know i made too many threads about this, and im sorry

im trying to install windows 7 by DVD. ive changed the order of boot devices in the BIOS so that the DVD is the first boot device but its not recognising the DVD. my dads computer (windows NT) recognises the DVD as a new system DVD. what am i doing wrong?

At start up you may need to get to the boot menu, try F10 or F11, it may be in your manual for your mother board which key it is

Are you using the chipsets Sata ports for the DVD drive or the extra ones using the (which ever brand) controller chip?

Are you using an internal or external dvd drive?

its an internal DVD drive. this one: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-099-SA&groupid=701&catid=10&subcat=951

i have tried both of these configurations with no joy:
- HDD in sata 1; DVD in Sata 6
- HDD in sata 1; DVD in Sata 2

it recognised the DVD drive in both configurations, and recognised it as a boot device

i will try the DVD in Sata 1 and HDD in sata 2, but i doubt it will make any difference

my only other idea is that the boot disk is the problem, which i am also going to check out soon

does the disc boot in the other machine or just shows up when windows is loading? it could just be the disc is dirty/scratched. do you have any other bootable cds you can try to see if its the machine or disc?

I’m sure I’ve read on here that you need to up-date the firmware for the Samsung drive to recognise a Windows 7 disc.

seems pretty similar to me.

since upgrading the firmware is not possible for me (no other computers in the house have SATAs) im gonna make a bootable USB

if they dont have sata i presume IDE?

why not borrow one to install win7 with, then get the sata drive working?

I had the same problem on a lite on drive. I copied the win 7 disc on another computer and installed using the copy, and it went fine then. Very strange some drives don't like the ms disc.

Had the same proble with a sff shuttle, i just gave up with win7 and installed xp

no, this was the 1st or second. someone has just bumped it.

also, as i said in the other one, the problem is fixed. windows is now on my new comp, and sorry for the different threads. i made new threads because i thought the problem had changed enough to warrant a new thread
