I'm deciding on what 5.1 receiver/speakers to get. I'm not looking for high-end stuff and have been looking at the more entry level options. I've filtered it down to two options. Either the Logitech Z5500 5.1 speaker system or the ONKYO HTS3305 Receiver with 5.1 speakers.

Both are about the same price. The main difference I can see is that the ONKYO HTS3305 is a HD receiver, so will do DTS HD etc, but isn't THX certified whereas the Z5500 is THX certified but not HD. Which should I be going for?

Cheers.

Well i cant speak for the other system but i have z5500's and they really good value and you wont be dissapointed. So long as you got a optical connection blu rays and dvds sound awesome . Plus you have a console so the dolby digital is really good on consoles and most games are dolby digital.

I'm not sure what you mean by hd sound i'm no audio expert but my speakers play the true hd sound in blu rays just fine. Its really clear and it sounds awesome. It also plays dts digital content fine as well. I havnt really come across this DTS HD you speak of.

Plus logitech customer servie is 2nd to none. The only downside is the sub is huge and it will shake your house :P so i hope you live in a detached house.

If you look on the ocuk site they have 50 reveiws all 5 star what i can see, you cant get much better then that http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-021-LG&tool=3

I would get the Onkyo, it will probably sound much better with the supplied speakers and you will also have the option to upgrade speakers at a later date if you want to.
