Hiya, the son of a chap at work wants a gaming PC for Christmas

The £600 is a hard limit. I will get them a copy of Win 10.

The best i can come up with here is either a 3.4GHz Ryzen 3, 1TB HDD, GTX 1050 based PC + 24" Monitor,
Keyboard/Mouse combo & a good headset for £590 or a Kabylake 3.7GHz Pentium based system for £595.

They have been looking at a system on Amazon, it has a better GPU but a worse CPU (GTX 1050Ti & Athlon X4 840), the package is within their budget.

Can anyone come up with other options please?

Many thanks in advance.

Micky, thanks for your help, think the Steelseries headset is actually just a Band that sticks onto the inside.

I did see a headset for about £9 but it looks pretty fragile, a kid would break it fast (probably),
i opted for the Cougar Immersa headset instead in my workings out.

I will show your spec to the chap when i can & see what he thinks. Thanks again :)

edG & orbital, thanks for very much for your thoughts, will speak to them tonight but i think
extra dosh for better stuff just won't be possible. Will post back if it's possible :)

Hiya, nope.

To be honest i didn't even ask after talking with them & their son.
I think the PC is kind of overkill anyway, will probably be used for CSGO & Garry's Mod etc for the next few years :D

Thanks anyway all but it's all been bought already. They wanted new stuff.

Mostly based on mickyflinn's spec with a few changes due to availability/cost & looks :)

Thank you again Mickyflinn :)

It was £20 over as it was, due to ram going up a bit and they wanted a funkier, windowed case.

Also got the Asrock A320M Pro4. Also now has a Superflower 550W Platinum.

I will as long as everything works! Biting my nails over this one....

Thanks chaps, was @ Asrock site looking at BIOS update info & getting a tad confused as it said it was supported.

Will load new BIOS on a USB stick (supports usb Flash), a very many thanks for the heads up.

Hi chaps, a quick update. Finally got to build it today & it turned into a minor nightmare. All working now though.

Superposition Benchmark on medium of 5238 (i think).

But cable management.... Grrrr. I got quite stressed.

This was the case they wanted https://www.overclockers.co.uk/koli...ng-case-black-full-side-window-ca-025-kk.html
If you look at the 6th Pic you can see all of the cables from the card reader & usb ports & power & fan buttons. There is no way to route them so
that they drop down behind the motherboard, i tried 2 or 3 different ways with the top & front off & the cables always ended up too short to connect where they need to.
Motherboard covered all of the large oval cable slots.

I did the best i could but it still looks terrible to me & will foul on any DVD/Burner drives that get added later.

Any suggestions or advice will be gratefully received. An yeah, i did consider taking a hacksaw to it :/

It was on a Sale at £30 or something like that at the time, so my m8 wanted it.

Will look into that, not sure if you can get them. Thanks for the suggestion :)

I think though, that i'm gona have to hacksaw part of the chassis or start drilling holes.
Can't really leave it as it is, will have to wait until next year though. Will take pic's if i get to do it.

Hi again, have bad news & really need some help.

PC is crashing or restarting after approx 1 hour of gaming, crashes/freeze's/re-starts then start to happen faster & faster (like 30 mins later & then 10 mins, then 2 mins etc), until you cannot actually do anything with the PC.
I was able to load Whocrashed after i saw it crash for the first time & could only get to see 1 data dump which was Video_Engine_Timeout with an error code 0141.
All temps were fine, heatsinks on everything were very cool. Although RealTemp did not recognise the Ryzen 3 cpu.... HW monitor in BIOS reported that CPU Temp was/is 30/32 degrees & m/b temp was 28. An GPU-Z
reported low temps for the gpu. To re-cap it's a Zotaz Mini 1050Ti.

Question is, is there a problem with the graphics card or is it software related. Or is it something else like the motherboard. Have looked on lots of forums for this problem but there does not seem to be a sure fire resolution, some people list every component as a probable point of failure or possible cause of the trouble.

I hope someone can point me in the right direction on this, many thanks in advance.

Hi Tamzzy, checked all cables etc, cpu heatsink has good contact, no overclocks were done.

First crash i saw, the screen just went black as a game was exited, the monitor went into standby mode but all the lights & fans on the pc stayed on & running etc. Then after a few seconds the pc re-started.
From what i've read on nvidia's forums lots of people have had this problem but few have an actual resolution.

At the moment i do not have a spare gpu to try in it. I think i'm at the point where i'm just going to have to buy one.

Yes it was a fully clean install, latest everything, ahh Tamzzy thank you very much for the offer but it wouldn't be right. If anything happened to it i'd be even more embarrassed than i already am.
I'm going to steal my brothers card instead :D And if possible bring the machine to my place so i can try everything anyone can think of over the next few days.

PSU is installed with the Fan facing down, there is a grill & a dust filter at the rear/bottom of the case, also the PSU sits about 1cm above the bottom of the case
& the case itself has stand off's that are about 2cm high. I also had the side off after checking that none of the cables had come lose.
But i know what you mean, it's as though something is getting hotter but all of the heatsinks, including the ones on the motherboard were cold.
If i get it here i can at least turn the PSU the other way up & see if that helps. I also have another brand new Cougar 550W PSU here & i was about to buy another
different motherboard & some ram but OcUK haven't got any 4Gb sticks of RAM atm.......... Grrrrrrr I don't want to have to spend nearly £100 on 8GB that i don't need :/

Oh yeah i did check that hot air was being exhausted from the PSU & have mounted it in the same way as i've mounted my own... This is so frustrating.....

Tamzzy, could you recommend a bullet proof AM4 board, cheapest possible?

A320 or B350. Have to get the 4GB of ram from elsewhere.....

Oh bugga i hope not, it's a Super Flower Plat.

Thank you Tamzzy, no orbitalwalsh it was a Pro4.

Am just a bit put off by Asrock atm though.

Might sleep on it, cause right now i am leaning towards buying an Upgrade bundle (cause then i know i have a working cpu/mb/ram), if it's not those
that are the problem i could always use it for something/someone else.... dammit i really don't know what to do right now.

Just realised that OcUK are out of stock on the Ryzen 3's .....

Well am certainly thinking about it as it was my idea for my friend to buy from here & me to build it for him,
instead of him buying a much worse system from the Jungle for more money.... Didn't ask anything for building it ofc
but they were very nice & bought me a lovely bottle of Brandy (it was working perfectly then!).

What is it they say, No good deed ever goes unpunished!

Or is it Time wounds all heels?
