Hi all,

Here's the deal. Dad just moved into a really old wooden house in the country that has two little cottages with it. There is only one place in the house with a phone socket, and therefore one place for the router to go.

He needs the whole house and cottages covered by wireless preferably or through mains network adapters.

What i need to know, is what is the maximum range of the high end routers and how much are they? Also how many of the mains adapters can be plugged into the same house at once while still working properly.

thanks in advance for any replies.

Also the download speed is 1.4mbs... pretty shockingly slow :(

The ring wire is an unnecessary wire that's often connected to phone extensions. It can pick up interference and reduce connection speeds. As you say you only have a single phone socket I wouldn’t have thought it would be an issue.

You asked about powerline adapters. I believe the effective maximum is about 10 adapters, but I can’t remember where I read it. They may work from the main house to the cottages, but it’s far from guaranteed.
