Need help please! All cores showing 0deg temps!

Hi guys,

Really strange one, I kept getting blue screens earlier but they flashed off before I could see what it said, then upon rebooting it stopped halfway and said to input boot media or change boot device, I traced this down to my hard drive cable, and so far the pcs been running fine for the last few hours, but...........

I just loaded up CPUID Hardware Monitor to check on my CPU temps and all cores are showing 0 (zero), so I tried core temp and thats the same, this has been all ok until today so whats broken, the CPU, the mobo?

I've reloaded HWMonitor, rebooted the pc and its still the same? Please can anyone offer some insight? :(

Don't read the core temp sensors, they are inaccurate and often faulty on AMD chips. The motherboard CPU sensor is the one you want to be reading.

Just solved the problem with a bit of Google Fu :D

All cores up until today have showed me a temp, but earlier they all stayed at 0deg, so something had changed, not the fact that they aren't accurate.

I found an old thread where others had the same problem and basically if you have an AMD cpu that has all cores available from the factory, like my X6 1090t, and you try to use the core unlocker feature in the BIOS or a button on the mobo then it reports all cores as 0deg, so I checked my mobo and as you guessed it, I had accidently pressed the core unlocked button on my mobo when playing with the hard drive cables earlier, so its all back to normal now and I can read the core temps as before.

I hope this thread helps others in the future as looking at Google, I wasn't the only one to experience this!!

I'm gonna have a bash at Football Manager 2011 now to calm down! :p
