Hi Overclockers,

I currently run an ATI HD 4800 PCIE graphics card running 2 Dell 19" monitors. I want to run a 3rd monitor and from my understanding i have to buy exactly the same graphics card for this to work but i cant find one anywhere. It seems to be discontinued. Can i buy an ATI graphics card a few versions up to run 3 monitors? What should i do, please help. I use my pc for music production and want cubase 5 spread over 3 screens, dont need super graphics power, i have a spare PCIE slot.

Thanks

AFAIK you can put any other graphics card in as long as you dont mind the monitors to be seperate. Presumabley you want them in unison in which case i would go for a
5670
5750
5770
5830
5850

Whats your budget?
And your PSU?

Hi Cleeecooo,

My PC spec is:

*OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz @ 4.00GHz Max /
Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Intel X58 Motherboard /
Corsair 6GB DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz DDR3 Bundle
x 2 - Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3500418AS)
x 1 - Corsair TX 750W ATX SLI Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-750TXUK)
x 1 - Antec 902 Nine Hundred Two Ultimate Gaming Case - Black (No PSU)
x 1 - Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit - OEM (FQC-00765)

I have 3 19" dell monitors which i want to hook up. Currently running 2 monitors. I want to set up all 3 to extend my desktop further and run my music software stretched over all 3 screens. Dont need insane gaming performance, just 3 monitors. Price not an issue but the cheapest most sensible option is what im after.

Any of the cards above will run all three monitors with just one card (using some displayport adapters).

5750 up should offer you somewhat of an upgrade in terms of performance, too (assuming your current card isn't a 4890 or 4870x2).

OcUK have a 5850 for £137 at the moment, and this would offer something like double the performance of a 4850.

A 5750 offers similar performance to a 4870 and can be had for £87 for the 1GB version.

If its just to extend your desk top and not crossfire. Any ati card will do even an old one spend pennys . My wife uses a old 3650 to run her 3rd monitor with her 4870 as the main card think i paid £8 for it

hello again, i got the 5850 but still cant get my 3rd monitor to work. The hdmi output on the card it working, the dvi output is working. I bought an adapter the other day which is a Sapphire Active DisplayPort to Single-Link DVI but i still cant get the damn 3rd display working. Am i using the right adapter?
