I have an iPhone 3GS which was unlocked on Vodafone (O2 unlocked it). I was having serious problems with it constantly searching for a mobile signal, then going no service and then going to 4 bars. Anyway, lots of places online said to cure the problem you can jailbreak it using redsnow and using Cydia cure the problem. As part of the jailbreak process I updated the baseband to 6.15 and the OS to 6.x (can't remember the number but it was the latest).

It was unstable on this jailbreak, so what I wanted to do was to go back to 5.1.1 which is recommended for the 3GS and remove the jailbreak. I used an online guide to try and revert using redsnow to 5.1.1 but now the phone just says "No SIM installed" all the time and I can't get it working properly.

All I want is to make my phone a non jailbroken 5.1.1 version - is this possible at this stage and can anyone guide me through the process? I have looked online but not been able to find a decent guide to doing it.

Thanks

you may have to place the phone to restore mode then manually download a stock ipsw file to force it on your phone. If you google it, there's guides on how to do it.

The only times I had to restore jailbroken phones to stock, itunes did it all for me.

I have the download of 5.1.1 and tried using option left click in iTunes to choose it to restore from, but I just get a message saying the device is not eligible for the requested build. I don't have any Apple entries in my hosts file and I also don't have any saved blobs.

Yeah I read that, and I don't have them.

So that being the case, how do I resolve the "No SIM card installed" error now?

Well your buggered really.

Unless a DFU restore to iOS 6 fixes it it is new phone time.

Take it to an apple store and they replace them for something like £150, but might as well get a used 4 for that!
