need help sorting this mess out :(

ok my MR2 has just failed the MOT, keeps a complete overhaul of the rear brakes. (not cheap)

this work cant be done untill the 12th June, the MOT is up today, so i need to find a car that i can use for work untill the other one is repaired.

i have been offered one to use for a month, but its registered in a mates name, so i cant take out a month insurance policy for it.

another option was the company car, but it will cost me £150 for a months use, and even then its not going to be mine of an evening, only have use during the day.

any other ideas of how i can sort something out for work???

i cant rent a car because im only 19

Do the brakes yourself? Not had much experience with MR2's but wouldn't have thought there was a boatload of work to do sort the rear brakes. What exactly needs doing?

If you do them yourself over the weekend then you could book a test monday morning and IIRC its legal to drive without an MOT if you are driving to a pre arrange appointment at an MOT centre.

You should be able to phone your ins company and have them add your mates car to your policy temporarily. Will only cost you about £20 or so.

If you aer fully comp, speak to your insurance company as a lot of policies allow you to drive other cars which you DO NOT own and will be covered in at least 3rd party.

I don't know what MR2 he's got, but if it's the mk2 the rear brakes are a pig to change everything (rear discs / therefore calipers). If it all needs over hauling (including the hand brake cables) it's easily a full weekends work if you know what you're doing and have the right tools.

Without either, it's a much harder job!

As for recommendations, speak to your insurance company and see what cover they can offer you on your friends car.

i've been told its a lot of work. so its pretty much out the equation.

insurance will only insure my mates car if i become the registered owner. and even that has the MOT on the 10th of june.

but i need a car for work and have only a day to sort it all out

There was a 106 diesel with tax and test on there for £150 last week. Heinous car, but use it until you are done with it, polish it up and sell it for what/more than you paid for it.

It's a lot of work, yes, but I've done it on my MR2 over the space of a weekend (in total). It all depends how savy you are with a spanner...

Otherwise I'd suggest doing what Lopez has suggested
