Hi there looking for some suggestions for a spec for a pc for creating music/editing.

My line of thinking of a decent gamming pc with 8gb of memory?

what do you think? budhet 500/600

Where will you buy the components from? I see a lot of American users talking about a site called Newegg - apparently they are very cheap, but I don't think they operate in the UK. It would be nice to see an equivalent type of cheap pc parts store here for self-builds.

For audio media editing you will want to splash out on the processor, maybe quad core and a healthy amount of RAM 8GB+ sounds good. You wont need much graphics processing but still fit in something decent with 1GB+ if it comes within budget.

8GB RAM
AMD X6 CPU
GTX 460 or 5850 or 5770 or 5830

CPU: £200
Mobo: £100
RAM: £80
GFX card: £100 (for the 5830)
HDD's: £45
Case: £50
PSU: £60

Total £635. (look around and maybe get something a bit cheaper)

Hmm..

Amount of cores you need is debatable. depends on how many filters you have etc.

For this, I would be looking at a SB build, possibly H67 chipset, and as Internaut mentioned 8GB of ram.

I'm sorry but there is no point whatsoever in getting a separate GPU if you don't need to. If you go P67 + Sandy Bridge then you'll need to but if you go AMD, H67 or wait for Z68, there's no point.

One of the fastest quad cores out there, onboard graphics that will be more than sufficient for your uses, a full 8GB of RAM, SSD for OS and your music software, and a 1TB harddrive for storage.

I thought the OP said he wanted a gaming PC. Apparently the corsair builder series PSU's are pretty crap.

I was just basing the built around the normal spec for a gaming pc as that's what im used to building. I have a spare 550w psu that i will probably use in this build.

Or i could sell him my current mb and i5 750 (i would keep my ssd 5850 and ram etc) and upgrade myself to a new sandybridge MB and CPU!

Will it be just purely used for music creation/editing? Then +1 to Cookeh's build. But change the 2500K to a 2600 maybe?

Also, what brand is the spare 550w PSU you have?

Its a be quiet 550w moudular dark power psu its awsome and i have ever had issues with it the only downsize if that all modular cables are quite fat not like the thin corsair ones so they are harder cable manage.
