bascially my hard drive decided to break a few weeks back, its with ocuk now and they are in the process of replacing it though they said it may take up to 28 days.
been thinking of possibly doing this RAID thing i hear so much about but really no clue as to it real advantages/disadvantages etc so hoping you guys could explain to me about it.
im almost 100% that this is the hard drive i currently have being returned to me, which is my only current hard drive other then the laptops one, so this is the hd i'd be using, is it worth getting another the same or if ocuk might refund me and i go ahead and buy 2 better ones for raid? if so can you reccomend any?
im also thinking of possibly a third, hard drive for either backing up or for swtiching between laptop/college/main pc so possibly an external one. are external ones good for every day use? can software be installed on the external or is it just limited to files like photos, videos etc as they don't require any installation?
lastly, though not as important, when backing up the hard drive how ias this done? when my last hd went bust i luckly could still use the pc, though it was unbeleiably slow, to transfer my files across the network onto my 40gb laptop and family members pcs. thinking mauybe there is software out there that compresses it all or something that i could then put on the laptop?
thanks everyone
