Need help, urgent.

Hi, im building my 1st pc. Im trying to put a freezer xtream cooler on my cpu, but i cant figure out wats going wrong.
The hooks wont reach the anchors either side of the cpu.
With the screws at their furthest point befor droping out i can only hook one side under :-s

I imagin im doing something deadly wrong.

Please help.

Do i just need to force it/push realy hard?

They can be fairly hard to put on, obviously don't go to mad, a little extra shove may do it

Is the board external or in the case, sometimes it can be easier outside.

i just put it in. Should i take out and push it on. Just feel like im gonna dent/crush the cpu :-s
How tight should i do the screws once its on?
Or if i have to force it on is that ok, just the screws are at their furthest point atm.

Basically, yes. It's feels wrong but you do have to apply quite a bit of force to get these on.

My last cooler bowed my mobo once it was on - i had to force one pin on with a screwdriver to get enough force on to it... :/

Edit - i would take the board out - it's always far easier to get a cpu cooler on externally.

Yep - you have to apply a no fear approach when putting on cpu coolers.

p.s. never built a pc befor, will def do again. just getting a mass of parcels and components was awsome, also knowing how it all goes together is a great experience, even if i little worrying ;-)

Looking at the manual the screws need to be loose, hook the cooler over the retension module then tighten screws.

You shouldnt crush anything, you need good contact

Buildings the easy part - it's getting the bugger to work after that's the tricky bit

No worries, let us know how you get on - it's alway interesting to hear the progress of a first time build.

It's the fine tuning of these modern systems that can be the tricky part but a lot of the time they boot up and identify all the right components. - here's hoping yours does. If it doesn't it's only a few minutes on the forums and the members should get your build/install back on track.

TBH, getting modern coolers on is practically the hardest part - so your half way there...
