Need help wiring in an electric cooker!

It is just like wiring a plug except that the outlet will have thicker wires for a cooker which draws a lot more current.
Red=Live
Black=Neutral
Green/yellow=Earth.

Do you have already have a wire from the cooker? ie it only needs wiring to the mains terminal on the wall?

Switch off mains.
Make secure connections with the same coloured wires inside the terminal.
Replace cover and switch on.

Job done.

just make sure you use the right cable size and that the circuit i on its own fuse. Probably 6mm and 20 amp. Google it.

It is easy. The hard bit can be getting it all in the box. 6mm cable can be a bit hard to manipulate in tight spaces and you dont want it coming loose.

I know how the connections go with regards to the back of the cooker. Its instructions are obvious.

The problem is the box on the wall. The gut who uninstalled the cooker completely took the wires out. So now I dont have a cable to conect from the wall to the cooker. I'll try and post some pics.

Sayin that I prolly will get a bloke in to do it, but theres no harm in showing you, im curious, ghow these things work.

I connect cookers quite regualy at work, it is very simple. but as others have said, if you're that unsure of how to do it, probably best to get somone who knows what they're doing.
Do you have any mates (or mates of mates) who could pop round and do it for a pint? it's literally a couple of minutes work!

Although if you post up pictures of the socket on the wall and the connectios on the back of the cooker, you couldn't really go wrong if someone pointed out what went where, and you have the right cable.

my policy on this subject, is that if it's a really simple job, like wiring in a cooker, and someone has to ask how to do it, then don't tell them.
anyone who needs to ask how to wire in an electric cooker shouldn't be doing it.

i wouldn't want to be responsible for someone electrocuting themselves cos they don't know how to wire up an electrical terminal properly. it's a simple job, but i've seem some really dodgy electrics over the years. like wires just shoved in the terminals and not clamped down properly. or earth wires not fitted to backboxes etc.

I've only just replaced the element in our fan oven, the part cost 30 quid but I was quoted anything between 75 and 125 quid to have it done professionally. It only involved undoing 5 screws...

Glad I decided to do it myself...

I'll get the resident sparky at my work (M&S) to come and and do it for me, he's a great lad and he wont rip me off. He'll more than likely do it for a couple of pints. I'll still post pics though when I can find my cable for my phone lol.

Ok this is what I have ( sorry for crap phone pics)

The cable supplying our cooker is much thicker than that, it needs to be for the current our dual oven cooker needs. I would be inclined to play it safe and get a professional to look at it...

Im guessing the cables coming out of the wall go into that box, somewhere? then a cable goes from the cooker and also into that box? hmmm.

Yeah I remember the cable was a thick grey one.

Looks like an old box
Id get myself down to B&Q buy a more modern one (they come with instructions) and then it should be just a case of securing the wire to the right hole like a junction box.

As for cable if you ask one of the people working there they should tell you what you need.

Thats a top suggestion. Thank you my man, I will pop down there. If it comes with clear instructions I would be more confident.
