i have tonight installed my new 5870 XFX card comming from nvdia i have unistalled all nvdia drivers physx etc im using win7 rc1.

I have then installed the new 5870 drivers 9.10 i believe from amds website, rebooted all fine.
i then messed around with the ccc to my settings ,vsync tb,etc and then unlocked the overclocking page.

I then see that the 2d clocks are in place and are working at extremley power low efficient levels as advertised for the 58** series,im happy all fine.

i then hibernate/sleep and then a few minutes later resume from hibernation as ive always done with my old nvdia card ,i then load up ccc and see the clocks are now at full 850mhz/1200/mhz and the Gpu level is at a constant 99%? where its suposed to be at 2d clocks?
also i get the drivers stopped responding error

I have tryed another driver which was from the xfx disk which was 9.8A i think and have the same problem
Im currently reinstalling win7 and hoping my problems will be solved with a clean install and no nvdia files on the system.
Im currently writing this on my laptop and win 7 and ccc should be installed in 10 mins or so.

Any ideas i know this is a brand new product and drivers need to be tweak but i havent read anywhere on these forums of ppl having this issues what im having.

I've never found hybernate or sleep to work without problems on any system... if it did before you were probably lucky...

Try re-locking the overdrive. For some reason, and I haven't really looked to find out why, but unlocked and the card cycles from 850 to 507 iirc. Locked and it drops down to 157 and stays there, odd.

ive removed sleep, hibernate from my start menu options now so left with just shutdown ,restart, i did like the sleep ,hibernate options but im not that bothered just worrying that my card is faulty.
im guessing as its a brand new product ATI need time to iron out problems, i just hope its not a dodgy bios as i cant be assed to rma a card thats 1 day old unless i really have to.

nVidia cards seem slightly less sceptible to sleep problems than ATI but they aren't immune...

I've had all sorts of problems with waking from sleep/hybernate on different machines including:

Network adapters that never showed up again on resume until rebooting
CD-ROM drive that would spin at full speed constantly
Soundcard like above that would dissapear after sleep until rebooted

Sometimes on my media PC (8500gt) on resuming the desktop goes to 4bit color with no background image and loses all customer resolutions.
