Firstly I would like to say hello as I am new here. I was guided to OverclockersUK by a friend who has pointed me this way to buy my new pc to replace the one I took back today for a full refund.

Now although I got the refund I am still perplexed as to what was the problem, and I have been trying to get to the root of it for a few months and the PC was back and forth to the shop I bought it from like a Yo yo!

The thing is the PC was i7 and the GPU was the Navidia 560 and it was 8GB ram. However intermittently it behaved as is evident in the video here [awaiting editing link coming back in 30 mins :-)]
We changed the GPU card and I brought it home and it still did it, so we tried and changed and tested one by one the ram...the motherboard..the processor...the HDD's..the case with a bigger PSU and it still occasionally did this?

I thought it might have been software conflict until I formatted and put a clean install bare bones Win 7 Ultimate 64bit once even without anti virus, all I installed was the motherboard and sound drivers and the up to date graphics drivers and yes I also tried the last 4 releases in case one of them suited my set-up better.

All of us here have no idea, but I'm hoping someone amongst you has seen this before and knows what causes it?

Thank you and I look forward to your replies:)

P.s I'm also looking forward to my new shiny PC from Overclockers in Portsmouth this coming weds :-)

Hi m8, sorry about that. Do you want me to remove it? I just want to find out what it was as there was a little bit of an atmosphere today when I took it back and I have got on great with those guys for 6 years, so deep down want to know what was the cause as its bugging me. I will see if I can edit out my frustrated comment out. I should be able to do it within 10 mins without having to reupload.

What do you think he is lying about buying a machine here and wants you guys to help fix a pc bought else where ?
Just for your info I was refunded £785 pounds at approx 11.50hrs today(Well to my card). This was requested by them on Saturday as we had exhausted everything to solve this. However when I took it in today and they refunded to my card after a 5 minutes chat I went to shake one of them by the hand and had a feeling it was half hearted. That made me feel a little sad on the way home as I have been mates with them for 6 years and bought 5 other PC's for me and my son from them during our upgrades over the years (We are gamers COD BF series throughout).

Now If I was a liar as you so kindly welcomed me to the forum . I will reply to you...I am an honourable man. I spent 30 years as a Combat Diver and EOD specialist so don't lie or like letting people down or take advantage off. That's how I felt today as deep down I know they have taken a loss but at the same time I had the worst and most expensive PC I have even bought and the most frustration with to boot. However I am only on a war pension and was really happy to get my money back. However if at all possible I still want to know what the problem was so I know I did the right thing.

I hope that suits you now eh!??

And just to prove I'm not a liar as you accused me of I spent 2 .5 hrs in PC World chatting to my M8 yesterday and after going through their stuff ..we realised Id have to throw out the GPU's buy another...oh then add a bigger PSU and then he just said to me go here to Overclockers as that's where he buys his stuff from (He has a 3 screen setup and £3k CPU and plays driver sims so he's a hard core gamer) and he helped me find one that's my requirements being the Bulldozer yada yada and with the SSD Im putting a few hundred quid more and hopefully get the CPU I want and just game and not have those or similar problems as its been a nightmare!

I appreciate your help.

Regards!

They should have just built you another pc that didn't have this problem and saved having to give you a refund.............

I would have been happy with that. However the PC has been with me a few months now. Correction its spent more time back at theirs. I feel they were trying to solve it as cheaply as possible. Each time they changed a part and sent me home with it when I reported back it was still occurring I would have to cart it all back and they would take out the last new bit they tried and put back my old piece and then tried another new bit somewhere else.

I agree with you and in a perfect world they should have just swapped it out and then returned the parts marked US, but that's probably why they didn't they are a small high street shop and I remember him telling me if he send my mother board back and there's nothing wrong with it the manufacturer would bounce it right back at him or something?

Now as we didn't know what was causing the problem..what parts do your return??

I would guess a few people who order Desktops in the next month or so will get parts of my cannibalised Desktop and they will be keeping their fingers crossed they don't come back any time soon saying they have a problem so they can recover from this too!

Do you mean you're getting a Bulldozer CPU?

Well I have only sort of liked that thus far. There are a couple more and I cant do anything until the money is back in my account in 3 or 4 days ish!

I am willing to put a few hundred maybe £300 tops on top of that and get the very best I can. So when I do actually get to "Make your mind up time" I will let you know what I'm thinking of and would appreciate all your expertise if I'm making a wrong choice?
Thank you

Surveyor is just trying to help you out and keep you on the forum fella. He was replying to mrrad1951 for the most part. We can't link to competitors as that is the forum rules but we will help anyone with any system when asked :)

You really, really don't want to be using the Bulldozer CPU. If you give us a budget and what you need (OS, monitor etc) we can post some spec's. I guarantee you won't see any bulldozer builds bud. Don't worry about the old machine, if these guys make a living off it and couldn't suss it that's not really your problem.

I have a legit Win 7 Ultimate 64 key and I use a dual monitors BenQ. I will inwardly digest the advice about the Bulldozer and put that out of my mind now..thanks for that. It looked good specs though http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-182-OE&groupid=43&catid=2040&subcat=1270 and I've just realised its a bit more as I forgot about VAT, I can still do that...just have to be frugal for a month.

Definitely, Intel's the way forward for outright speed - there's very few applications that BD can be recommended for.
The PC I returned was Asus Motherboard, so intel might be a good way forward, hopefully I couldn't possibly have the same problem again? (Fingers crossed)

Cheers m8!

Well normally we spec the parts and then you assemble yourself. Now I'm guessing that is a no go with you so......get in contact with OCuk and see what they would charge to assemble your own choice of components.

Let us know what that will cost and give us a budget to suit and importantly list what you do need and the uses for the build......then we can get to work.

Ok will do. I was under the impression after talking to my m8 yesterday that it would be delivered made or picked up from Portsmouth? My neighbour even said today that he wouldn't mind running me over there as I don't have a car in the UK only at my house in the Philippines and Overclockers is a 2.5hr drive from where I live. I'll pop over to see him again tomorrow and anyway tell him I want a Intel based unit and start over.

Thank you everybody for the heads up on the Dozer...and goodnight!
