Hi,
I'm new to overclocking and as i'm sure lots of new people do, I have a couple of questions. I read through some guides and have had a couple of tries but i think i'm doing something wrong, a lot of the settings mentioned in the guides I've read seem to be under a different name in my BIOS, or i'm just looking straight past them. All I need to know is which settings i should be nudging up and which settings need changing in my BIOS? I've linked some pics of the settings in the oc'ing tab of the BIOS. I'm running an AMD phenon II 965 x4 black edition and a an asrock 970 extreme 4 mother board and 16gb og vengeance RAM.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

bump up the multiplier by 0.5 and boot into windows and continue until you BSOD or freeze up

the once frozen or BSOD, up the volts a tiny bit and try to boot in again... if you boot in, run a SMALL FFT test in prime95 and run for 2-3 hours, ,making sure the temps dont run above 60C... if they do... lower the OC down a little

if you cannot boot into windows after boosting the volts, back it back down to the last achievable boot in and run another prime95 test... if stable after 2-3 hours and temps are good, then you are set

i had the 965 and could only get 3.8ghz out of her.. but again... each chip is different and you got a better board than me

Questions...

1. what cooler are you running?

2. what case?

3. what PSU! (very important)

Hey, thanks for the reply
I''m running a H100i (a bit overkill, I know)
I've got a corsair 300r case with plenty of fans and stuff.
And i've got corsair cs500m 500w psu.

Also does that mean i should reset the "load optimized CPU OC setting" back to defualt or leave it as it is?
Thanks again for the help.

reset the bios back to defaults then try overclocking on the specs I have you in my last thread,,, as i said, i have had that chip.. they do run hot but with the h100i you will be fine... but the 500w psu maybe a little weedy for the overclocking.. but you should be fine...

just follow my steps and you should reach 3.8ish.. maybe more... 965's have been known to reach 4.1ish but with stupid volts... just be careful

Ok, thanks very much for all the help, I know the psu is a bit small and I am planning on upgrading soon, but I'll give what you said a go.
