Okay I've done quite a bit of research today, and yet I still haven't managed to get my USB stick to work! doh!

I have downloaded the HP USB manager software and that is intuitive enough but if I want to create a bootable USB partition then I need the dos boot files is this correct? If so, are these readily available for free?

Is this the best way to do it? I've spent most of the day faffing around with various things and I can't believe the mess I have made of it :D

I should just add, my goal from this is to flash the bios of my new shuttle! That's it!!

If you follow this guide here philstanbridge, you should have one in a couple of minutes. It includes the download links to the HP USB format tool and the Windows 98 boot files that you need. :)

Why thankyou sir. I'm not kidding when I say I've spent the best part of the day trying to get various things to work! Crazy.

This is also a good little tool for creating a bootable USB drive :-

Novicorp Win to Flash

Run it, point it at a folder with your chosen Windows install files in it and let it do its stuff. Quick and painless.

It's freeware too.

*EDIT Just read the last line of your post about flashing the BIOS. Sorry, thought you were looking to make a bootable USB drive to install an OS.

Well I had unintentionally created a bootable XP build from my 2GB USB stick. I thought YAY, then it started to install XP :D I could do everything other than just boot to dos! I've managed to get it sorted now thanks to Fire Wizard and now my Shuttle recognises my new chip. Thanks to all.
