Hi Guys,

Well I did it.... I messed up my choices and my 280x windforce is too big for my antec 300 case. Well the 3.5 bay chassis blocks it just at the pivotal moment.

I only use an SSD drive so I wanted to just take the chassis out but I can't find the right tool for that job. Anyone know what I can use or am I screwed? :)

Cheers

Damn, don't think I have anything to cut it with.....

Think it might have to be a new case

I will probably just get a new case. I will use the case as a test for a home media server now.

Anyone got suggestions for a case? cheaper the better really but has to have size for a gigabyte r9 280x windforce.

Antec 302 is similar to the 300, but a little longer and wider. It has 318mm clearance for graphics cards, so the Windforce should fit.

The Corsair 300R is also very good, only slightly more expensive. It probably has better build quality, but sacrifices drive bays to be able to fit a couple of long graphics cards (up to 450mm), so if you have more than a couple of drives, it's hard to space them out.

Reviews I've read say the Corsair is nicer finish and build, but the Antec is a little quieter and has better air flow. I think because so much of the Corsair is mesh, it tends to let the noise out. The Antec also seems to force the air through better, in a slightly more structured way, probably because it doesn't have as many mesh openings as the Corsair.

That's a lot to think about really. I'm not really bothered about the noise as I have headphones on all the time but the the cooling on the antec sounds pretty good and I'm hoping to get a good clock out of the cpu....

Any of them have issues fitting large heatsinks? more tall then wide

Actually I when I upgraded and my old PC in it's Antec 300 went to my wife, I deliberately went with the 302 because it's relatively cheap, but can take a long graphics card and wider heatsinks. I've currently got a Noctua NH-U14S which is 165mm tall. So including some space behind the motherboard tray, standoffs and CPU, and there's still about 1.5 cm spare after a tall heatsink.

The 302 will take that Raijintek with loads of space to spare.

Oh, the other thing is that I didn't like the two fans that come with the 302. They have switches so you can chose between low and high settings, but I swapped them for Noctuas and had the motherboard control them more dynamically as well as sticking another one in the front.

Thanks yeah just saw there is a great clearance with this cooler so will work well.

Might go for the antec then as it's the cheaper option!
