Hi all, I'm new to the forum and also new to CPU upgrading and I've been looking at these within my budget range

Athlon X2 6000+ Dual-Core Processor - 3.10 GHz,1MB L2 Cache,Socket AM2,89W,65 nm

AMD Athlon 64 X2 7750 Kuma 2.7GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache 2MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 95W Dual-Core black edition

Or...AMD Phenom X3 8450 Triple-Core Processor - 2.10 GHz, 3.5MB L2 Cache, Socket AM2+, 95W, 65 nm

Now I've been told I'm best off going with either one of the Dual Cores and not the triple-core as the main reason I'm upgrading is for gaming only and not much application work what so ever, So should I stick to the dual cores? If so which out of the X2 6000+ and 64 X2 7750 Kuma would you recommend I purchase? Thanks guys

Don't forget that the 7750 is based on the Phenon design so it is inherently faster than the previous generation Athlon (I think 20% faster is the figure quoted). So its not a simple MHz comparison.

Also, don't forget the X3 720 has got very good reviews ... its a bit more buts probably worth considering ... I'm currently debating whether to go 7750X2, 720X3 or (for intel route) e5200 as its about time I upgraded my Athlon 3800 (thats "X1").

My current view is 720X3 is good option if I'm going to stick with that for the medium term with 7750X2 being shorter term option with intention to move to what's currently top end X4 when they become more mainstream next year
