Hi Overclockers peeps,

OK fairly simple problem but I'm not sure what the best solution is. I just moved into a student house with some friends for my second year, and we had Virgin 30mb installed. It works perfectly when in range of it, but my PC is too far to pick it up.

I tried using a range extender from PC world but it didn't work very well. My internet cuts out every 1-2 minutes, making any streaming or game playing impossible.

I've researched Powerline Adapters, but they seem slightly too expensive (~£40), and I've been told an ethernet cable long enough (~40m) will cause the connection to be weak. Are there any other solutions? Or an affordable Powerline Adapter?

Thanks guys!

Cat5E is good to 100m so the ~40m run will have no problem working. So the person that told you it would be a weak signal is missleading you with incorrect information for some reason.

No reason way an ethernet cable wouldnt work. They can be had quite cheaply, only problem being is they can look a bit messy. Student house though so Im going to tar you with my stereotype brush and say it doesnt matter

A Cat5e cable is good for 100Mb @ 100m, but at 40m some Cat5e may struggle with a 1000Mb connection. Either way it's no biggy for your internet speeds, it'll only affect your internal LAN speeds.
