Hello guys, my Asus Xonar D2 PCI arrived today, but i cant get the sound to work. I downloaded the drivers from Asus, the card is detected, but my Logitech Z5500 produces no sound at all. Tried different PCI slots, same issue, funny thing is when i install the driver, i can hear the sound card crackle inside the case!!!. Any ideas,

My spec is

Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz @ 4.5ghz
HIS ATI Radeon HD 6950 2048MB GDDR5
OCZ Vertex 2E 120GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive
Silverstone Fortress FT02B-W Windowed Gaming Case
Asus P8P67 DELUXE Intel P67
Corsair Professional Series™ Gold AX850 High Performance 850W Power Supply
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-15000C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit
Thermaltake Frio CPU Cooler
Pioneer 24x Internal S19LBK DVD Rewriter

New Asus Xonar D2, all this was bought from OC

Onboard sound was disabled, Tried diffrent PCI slots, made sure connectors were connected correctly, But should the actual card crackle? Im just testing my speakers with onboard sound as we speak to make sure the speakers are not dead

I know, its odd, because i had the case open, while it boots it crackles from the actual sound card, and I am sure its the card because no speakers were installed, and does the same when the drivers are installed

Ok, should i put the sound card in and check? I remember i had a issue at the start where by the windows update screwed the PCI slots up, i solved that, but i can have a look again

Ah ok, was just checking it wasnt something like that conflicting, as i had that issue when i first built mine.

For what its worth im running same board and speakers, with an Asus Donar DX (PCI E though).

It should click like a relay when the pc is booted up. Mine does. Are the lights working inside? All the ports have a different colour light. You have definatly plugged in the extra power connector too?

Are the speakers plugged into the correct ones, and the correct sound card selected in the sounds and devices?
Try with some earphones, these do not require power and are useful as a double check.

Under device manager, it says JMicron Controller, and Marvell controller, Yes the lights work, it finds it correct in Device manager, I am sure the connectors are correct. I will have to try with headphones. Yeh it does not make a click noise when its booting, it makes like a crackle, same when you install the drivers.!

It should make something like a double click noise when booting (just before the log on screen) - all my Xonars have done that. Certainly not a crackle though. Would be worth trying it in a different board just to make sure though.

And yeah, there's no external power on a PCI Xonar.

May be i will go round a mates house, that would be the final test, thing is i was using my Creative Xifi before on the new pc, worked fine. Or might pop in to work to test it, Yes I heard it click when it boots, but it made a crackle noise a few times.

No compatibility type things in the BIOS? Is it a new install of Windows? Have you tried the UNi drivers for it?
